Job description: Fairfield School of Business (FSB) , an OFS registered private higher education provider founded in 2006 with campuses in London, Birmingham, Leicester and Luton. The Programme Leader / Lecturer in Computing provides academic and strategic leadership for the Computing programmes, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and student experience. The postholder will develop, deliver, and continuously enhance undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, aligning them with institutional goals, industry trends, and professional standards. This role requires an experienced academic who can inspire both students and colleagues, lead curriculum innovation, and foster strong connections between academia and industry to prepare graduates for the dynamic global tech sector. Key Responsibilities Leadership and Programme Management Lead the design, delivery, and review of Computing programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Provide academic leadership for the subject area, ensuring curriculum relevance, quality assurance, and alignment with institutional strategy. Manage teaching staff within the programme, conducting performance reviews and supporting professional development. Liaise with Registry, Exams, and Quality Assurance teams to ensure effective administration and compliance with academic policies. Oversee timetabling, resource allocation, and coordination of teaching delivery across campuses. Teaching and Learning Deliver high-quality teaching across core Computing modules (e.g., Software Engineering, AI, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Cloud Computing, or related fields). Use innovative and inclusive pedagogical approaches, such as flipped learning, problem-based learning, and project-led teaching. Supervise dissertations, projects, and placements at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Embed employability and real-world application within all teaching activities. Act as an Academic Personal Tutor, supporting students academic progress and personal development. Curriculum and Quality Enhancement Lead curriculum development, validation, and revalidation processes for Computing programmes. Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and ensure alignment with current industry practices and digital technologies. Engage with external examiners, professional bodies, and accreditation processes. Contribute to annual monitoring reports, programme enhancement plans, and student feedback analysis. Research, Scholarship and Professional Practice Engage in research, scholarship, and professional development activities in computing or related areas. Integrate research-informed teaching practices and encourage student engagement in scholarly inquiry. Contribute to the institutions research profile through publications, conferences, or applied industry projects. External Engagement and Industry Links Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, employers, and professional organisations to support placements, projects, and collaborative research. Represent the school at academic, professional, and public forums to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Computing discipline. Support marketing, outreach, and recruitment activities, including open days and external events. Person Specification Essential: Masters degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. Relevant teaching qualification (e.g. PGCert, PGCHE) or Fellowship of Advance HE (or willingness to obtain). Evidence of successful teaching and assessment in Higher Education. Experience in curriculum design, validation, and programme leadership or coordination. Knowledge and experience of quality assurance procedures and academic governance. Demonstrable expertise in at least one key area of Computing (e.g. AI, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Data Science, Networking, Cloud Computing). Engagement in research, scholarship, or professional practice relevant to Computing. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal. Strong leadership, organisational, and team management abilities. Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. Ability to use digital tools and learning technologies to enhance student experience. Innovative, proactive, and student-centred approach to teaching and leadership. Flexible and adaptable, with strong problem-solving and time-management skills. Desirable: PhD (or near completion) in Computing or related subject. Senior Fellowship of Advance HE (SFHEA). Experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Experience of external examining or programme accreditation processes. Experience in developing blended and technology-enhanced learning. Industry experience or collaboration with external partners. Evidence of publications, conference presentations, or funded projects. Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration or partnership projects. Experience mentoring or line-managing academic staff. Experience of widening participation and student support initiatives. Experience in developing virtual or online learning environments. Evidence of contributing to departmental strategy or growth initiatives.
