About the Role


We are seeking a Compliance Consultant to join our Business Operations team. This role involves providing consulting services and expert advice in the area of Machine and Process Safety. The successful candidate will lead PUWER assessments, CE-Marking for complex assemblies, machine risk assessments, safety control system validation, and ATEX / DSEAR reviews. This position can be based remotely from anywhere in the UK, with travel to regional offices and client locations in the UK and worldwide as required.



Key Responsibilities


Provide consulting services and advice on compliance with machine and process safety aspects for new installations during design and installation phases.

Conduct CE/Machinery/PUWER safety reviews and assessments of complex assemblies for CE Marking compliance under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

Perform on-site audits of existing plant and equipment, including ATEX/DSEAR surveys, gap reports, and preparation of Explosion Protection Documents with Hazardous Area Classification.

Carry out plant inspections and equipment reporting pre-installation (pre-delivery inspections).

Train NIRAS and client personnel in machine safety principles related to the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations.

Complete safety compliance assignments for clients, meeting project criteria.

Support NIRAS design teams with expertise in your specialism.

Generate fee revenues from machine risk assessments and safety assignments.

Develop and maintain client relationships, offering value-added services for continuous development.

Assist with business unit marketing activities and provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for business development opportunities.

Adhere to Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, and Quality Operating Policies and Procedures.

Promote and implement the Corporate Values of the Company.

Foster a culture of teamwork and discourage divisiveness at all organisational levels.

Uphold confidentiality agreements and communicate appropriately with internal and external stakeholders.



Essential Requirements

Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering) or HNC with relevant experience.

Competence in Machinery Safety Assessment.

Excellent organisational, planning, and analytical skills.

Ability to work well under pressure and meet demanding timescales.

Advanced general administration and IT skills.

Proven teamwork experience and effective communication skills.

Networking skills.

Car owner/driver.



Desirable Requirements

CMSE© Certified Machine Safety Expert.

FS Eng (Machinery).

NEBOSH General Certificate.

ATEX / DSEAR experience.
