Irving Knight has partnered with a 100 year old, family-owned speciality chemical distributor that is fast approaching €1b in revenue. They are seeking a Business Manager to oversee the Fine Chemicals division across the United Kingdom Ireland. This role will inherit €20m in business but will be heavily focused on new business development.


The role will possess responsibility for a wide range of Intermediates, APIs and Process Chemicals. My client possess an exceptional culture with incredible staff retention figures. They are extremely financially stable and pride themselves on their warm, family feeling, with a focus on people development. The management board are simply wonderful, with overawing passion for their trade, whilst they also close in on the top 30 global chemical distributors based on revenue.


We are looking for a candidate to inherit a team of two Sales/Customer Service professionals, whilst the expectation would be to grow this team significantly over the coming years. This is a real opportunity to drive your own success, work with diverse applications and be at the forefront of the growth of this companies fastest growing market segment in Europe


You will also report to a deeply passionate, friendly, personable and caring Global Business Director. If you would like to work for a company that puts employees first, heavily focuses on diversity/sustainability, and work in a truly collaborative environment, this could be tole role for you.


Key Responsibilities Include:


  • Reporting to the Global Business Director, manage a team of two Junior Sales/Customer Service professionals to drive growth and achieve new business across UKI, with 30% travel across the territory; you will be expected to attend an office in Macclesfield semi-regularly, with the remaining time working remotely.
  • Utilize product knowledge and sales/product management experience to clearly deliver the value proposition.
  • Sustain and improve upon the level of service offered to customers via unique and new service initiatives.
  • Stay on top of and provide analyses of industry changes, emerging markets and market shifts as well as new products and competitive landscapes.
  • Attend (as required) and recommend participation in industry tradeshows and other events.
  • Represent your employer as a leader in the industry through conferences, industry events, social media platforms, etc.
  • Incorporate appropriate sales techniques when prospecting new customers, ensuring effective communication of the brand and market presence.
  • Move prospects through the sales process to secure new business.
  • Prepare and deliver sales presentations and product demonstrations, where applicable, either in person or virtually.
  • Secure in-person customer visits with purchasing, RD, and sales and marketing contacts at potential customers.
  • Answer customer questions, concerns and inquiries with a sense of urgency and accuracy.
  • Send quotes to new/existing customers and sample requests, etc., as required.
  • Participate in new product introductions, training, joint sales calls, and testing.
  • Issue timely reporting of customer issues, meetings, and opportunities through call reports, emails and other means of communication.
  • Liaise closely with product management, pricing and RD teams.


Qualifications


  • A technical degree (at least BSc) in Chemistry, Pharmaceuticals or similar is not absolutely essential, but heavily preferred.
  • Absolute minimum of five years of experience selling Pharmaceutical APIs and/or Intermediates (at least nationally in the UK) for a manufacturer, distributor or CMO.
  • At least three years of management experience, leading a team of at least two individuals.
  • Fluency in English; German would be a plus, but in no way essential.
  • Self-motivated, high energy, and engaging level of enthusiasm and positive outlook.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, and ability to adapt communication style to the audience as needed.
  • Software knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and evidence of insurability.
  • An existing network of customers within the Pharma industry.
  • Must be willing to travel 30% of the time, including four trips to HQ (North Germany) per year for sales meetings.
