Northoaks are partnering with a rapidly expanding, £500m+ listed company, based in the East Midlands, to hire a best-in-class Group Finance Director. As the new Group Finance Director you will be responsible for providing leadership, Strategy and control oversight, of this rapidly growing business. Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the CEO and Board, whilst leading the finance function of circa 20. A great opportunity to become the CFO in 2/3 years. This is a critical role in an exceptionally well performing business.


Responsibilities include, developing the business strategy and commercial drivers whilst holding the whole business to account for business performance. Leading the management of the Group’s external and internal financial reporting, managing the relationship with external parties, managing treasury and debt facilities, summarising complicated financial matters to finance and non-finance leaders, and in leading the financial, tax and technical accounting matters of the Group.


The role would suit someone who is both technically very strong and commercially focused, and capable of being hands-on, so as to meet strict deadlines on a monthly and annual basis.



Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of the Groups strategic KPI's and full budgeting cycle.
  • Consolidation of monthly management accounts and key strategic performance indicators, with appropriate commentary and forecasting of results.
  • Board presentations.
  • Oversight of the Group’s balance sheet, including review of balance sheet reconciliations to ensure they are compliant with policy.
  • Managing the Group’s external reporting timetable, including listed company reports and interim reports, and liaison with external auditors.
  • Providing Group overhead and cap-ex control, with appropriate control and rigor of spend, and oversight as to working capital management.
  • Treasury and debt facility management, including optimizing the interest earned on cash held, and reporting in line with contracts and assessing compliance with covenants.
  • Ensuring the Group’s tax affairs are controlled and optimized, including in corporate tax and VAT.
  • Managing third party relationships, including banks, external auditors, tax advisors, system providers, insurers and reporting support.
  • Oversight of accounts payable and sales ledger activities.
  • Supporting the Group in managing key risks and improving internal controls.
  • Supporting the CFO and CEO in key financial and non-financial metrics to be reported to City analysts / investors or drive performance, as appropriate.
  • Support commercial initiatives, including investment appraisal and driving efficiency and margin improvement.


Key Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CA) with at least 8 years PQE
  • An audit background, either from a Big 4 accounting firm or smaller would be advantageous.
  • Gravitas yet down-to-earth, with a drive to continually improve performance
  • Knowledge of IFRS, including share-based payments
  • Good network of advisers and partners to expand the Group’s reach
  • An understanding of capital equity markets in a listed environment, or from private equity, would be advantageous but not essential
