Senior Civil & Structural Designer –Renfrew or Teesside Based

Altrad are currently expanding due to a number of project successes within our Major projects business. To support this growth we are looking to recruit a Senior Civil & Structural Designer with expertise in E3D and AutoCAD or similar design software, supporting both Greenfield and Brownfield Petrochemical projects to success.


The opportunity will be based in our Renfrew or Teesside offices with hybrid working arrangements on a contract or staff basis with potential to extend longer term. You will be working in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams.

So what will you be doing?


Day to day you will be responsible for developing and preparing detailed civil and structural design documents, including layouts, modelling, GA & detail drawings. When required you will be expected to support the Principal / Lead engineer in reviewing and checking design deliverables.


As part of the opportunity you will also participate in site visits and surveys to gather information for design development.


Key Accountabilities:

  1. Deliver accurate and high-quality civil and structural design documentation.
  2. Engage with cross-disciplinary teams and clients to ensure project milestones are met efficiently and safely.
  3. Generate design deliverables in order to meet project requirements and schedule.
  4. Uphold the highest standards of quality and safety in line with industry regulations.
  5. Contribute to identifying and delivering work process improvements.
  6. Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and client requirements.
  7. Collaborate effectively with project teams to achieve project objectives.
  8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and advancements in civil and structural engineering.
  9. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the design team.



So what do you need to be considered?


Qualifications & Experience:

  1. HND in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline and/or minimum 5 years relevant experience.
  2. Relevant experience in design software.
  3. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  4. A self-starter who can also thrive in team settings.
  5. A commitment to ethical and professional standards.
  6. Genuine enthusiasm for engineering and continuous personal development.


Key Competencies:

  1. Good knowledge of civil and structural design principles.
  2. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  3. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  4. Proficiency in using relevant design and analysis software.
  5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  6. Understanding of materials and construction processes used in civil and structural engineering.
  7. Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes.
  8. Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
