With more than 55,000 people in 40 countries, working at Jacobs offers an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.

People are Jacobs' greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent. In addition to the benefits you'd expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay, free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships.

We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for Jacobs. We're happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

About the Opportunity

Jacobs are recruiting for experienced Quality Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Generation with their nuclear fleet in the UK.

This is a key role within our project and engineering portfolio which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced quality engineering management professionals within Jacobs and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your management and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects.

Are you good at spinning plates?

It's not something you see very often on TV these days, but figuratively, it is a very useful skill, one of which is vital if your goal is to keep nuclear power stations operating safely, contributing to the UK's Net Zero carbon target, or to help prepare them for decommissioning.

The UK's five operating stations deliver 16% of the UK's power, and it takes a large team delivering 100's of projects to enable these stations to continue generating as well as defuel the three stations that have ceased operation - and that's a lot of plates.

And this is where you come in

If you're familiar with project delivery, you'll know that they have plenty of moving parts and complexity, which is why you'll be working alongside our Subject Matter Experts, Operations Managers and with our Framework Service team too.

People are at the heart of everything we do

Centre to the success of the role will be your people skills, building effective relationships and interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders in multiple locations.
You'll also work closely with colleagues to support activities that offer the best service to the client. Through your interactions, you'll be able to gather useful intelligence on client needs and work with the team to deliver innovative solutions.

You'll utilise your strong communication and engagement skills to achieve client, people and business outcomes, working with your team and peers that are based in different locations across the UK.

As well as focusing on the support to this framework, you'll get involved in other aspects of our high-performing business. We're continuously evolving and growing the business, so there's plenty of opportunity to evolve and grow your skills and career too.

You will be part of a large client-led team at EDFs Gloucester Business Park location with some travel required and will be accountable to the client Project Manager, Programme Manager and/or Construction Manager.
  • Quality Engineers are accountable to provide positive leadership on quality matters within portfolios and project delivery teams and promote the adoption and culture of best practice, that delivers positive commitment to quality and engages all employees in continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the quality management system and to make recommendations for improvement as appropriate, to ensure project activities comply with relevant procedures and QA requirements. The Quality Engineer is accountable to the client PPM or equivalent Group Head, with functional responsibilities to the client Quality Lead. This role has no direct reports.
  • Everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.

Here's what you'll need:
  • HNC in a Technical Discipline or equivalent
  • Recognised BE EN ISO9001 Internal Auditor Training completed
  • Certification as IRCA Auditor/Lead Auditor
  • Demonstrated proficiency in auditing and surveillance of client and contractor activities
  • Should be aware of the Site Licence requirements on quality assurance and arrangements required to ensure compliance
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Quality Management standards and guidelines including the current versions of BS EN ISO09001
  • Working knowledge of the current versions of IAEA GC-R-3, BS EN ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Quality Management practices, methods, and processes. This should include experience within Projects Quality
  • Management, ideally within the Nuclear Industry or other similar regulated environments
