Job Description:

Couch Heroes is seeking a talented and experienced Art Director to join our expanding team. As the Art Director, you will play a critical role in shaping the visual identity of our upcoming MMO-style game. Collaborating closely with the art, design, and development teams, you will lead the creation of immersive and visually stunning environments that enhance the player experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a team of artists, providing guidance, feedback, and mentorship to ensure high-quality asset delivery and cohesive art direction.
  • Collaborate with game designers and developers to understand the game's vision and translate it into captivating visuals.
  • Develop and oversee concept art, mood boards, and style guides to establish the visual direction and aesthetics of the game world.
  • Drive the creation of environment assets, including landscapes, architecture, and props, ensuring technical and artistic quality.
  • Utilize industry-standard tools to model, texture, and light environments, balancing visual fidelity and performance.
  • Establish efficient workflows and pipelines for art production, ensuring smooth collaboration between artists and teams.
  • Provide artistic direction and feedback, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to the established art style.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and implement innovative techniques to enhance visual quality and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Art Director or similar role in the gaming industry.
  • Impressive portfolio demonstrating exceptional art skills and a strong understanding of composition, lighting, color theory, and mood.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling and texturing software, such as Maya, 3ds Max, Substance Painter, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of game development processes and experience with game engines like Unreal Engine.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, able to provide clear artistic direction and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for high-quality art.
  • A deep appreciation for MMO-style games and their unique visual requirements.
  • Ability to concept/sketch
  • Ability to produce game ready assets
  • Ideally having some stylized projects in the portfolio

Bonus Points:

  • Experience creating realistic and stylized environments for MMO-style games.
  • Proficiency in procedural and modular asset creation.
  • Familiarity with terrain and ecosystem creation tools, such as World Machine or SpeedTree.
  • Knowledge of shader creation and optimization techniques for real-time environments.
  • Understanding of level design principles and player navigation within game worlds.
