Centralised Resource Planning Manager

Our Operations Team is seeking a Centralised Resource Planning Manager. This role will be instrumental in optimising the allocation of work within our Assurance and Business Services teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring Resource Allocation Efficiency by effectively measuring the utilisation of our resources—such as staff hours, skills, and equipment—to avoid both over- and under-utilisation across our Business Services and Audit projects. In addition, this role will focus on maintaining an optimal workload distribution among team members, tracking the average time taken to allocate resources, and initiating projects promptly after requests are made. By prioritising timely project initiation, the Centralised Resource Planning Manager will help minimise delays in service delivery, ultimately enhancing our overall operational efficiency. Your responsibilities
Here's a bit more on what you can expect to be doing day-to-day:
- Proactively manage the Business Services and Audit resource managing process
- Working with managers who will provide details to the Resource Planner, including the: client code; time needed; level; specialist knowledge needed; deadlines plus copy of last year budget and RCA when we get to these being completed on all jobs)
- Responsible for reviewing budgets, and if the time requested doesn’t equate to the budget or level of team, to challenge back to the managers ensuring they understand the impact and allocation for overall centralised budgets
- To manage the resource planner document and allocate jobs to team members informing those team members and populate all data ensuring a smooth and consistent tracking process.
- Will be responsible for any updates, amendments or changes and is responsible for prioritising where there is genuine need withing the business, ensuring resource allocation is directed accordingly
About you
We think you’ll need the following experience and qualifications to succeed in the role:
- Confident and skilled verbal and written communicator
- Forecasting, and capacity planning skills in predicting future resource needs based on project pipelines and client demands.
- Workload management with the ability to allocate resources effectively across Assurance and Business Services based on workload demands.
- Ability to cultivate trusted advisor working relationships with practitioners, business hub team members and the wider resource management function
- A track record of interacting effectively with empathy, impact and discretion, cultivating trusted advisor working relationships with Business hub leadership, and team members
- Pragmatic problem solver, with the ability to handle resource conflicts, adjust plans, and offer solutions when issues arise.
- Financial acumen, with an understanding of budgets, billing, and financial impacts related to resource decisions.
- Knowledge of resource planning tools, such as resource management software, MS Project, Excel, IRIS, or specific accountancy planning tools.
- Adaptability, with the ability to respond to changing client demands, shifting priorities, and evolving team structures.
- Compliance awareness, by understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the UK accounting sector.
