Overview of role

To provide comprehensive financial planning and investment management advice to new and existing clients of the firm, while at all times upholding the principles of the firm.

Ensure all advice given is complaint with the FCA rules and regulations.

Achieve the set revenue targets by generating your own leads and converting those supplied to you by the firm.


General responsibilities

  • Deliver the firm’s client proposition, while adhering to the FCA rules as interpreted in the firm’s compliance procedures.
  • Review existing client’s circumstances in accordance with the firm’s Review Schedule and help clients with any issues that arise on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial planning advice on investments, pension planning, inheritance tax and estate planning, in an efficient manner.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, driving engagement and positive client outcomes.
  • To always ensure that the work undertaken complies with the regulatory and legal environment.
  • Development and maintenance of appropriate business relationships with product providers, fund managers and professional introducers.
  • Execute the client service strategy to ensure that existing clients are managed to the highest standards.
  • Ensure clients receive good value from our service and assist with quality control, ensuring all client work is of the highest standards.
  • Identify opportunities within existing client groups and support them in asking for referrals at client meetings when appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, engage with clients to build relationships.
  • Ensure consistent high quality of service to clients to drive engagement and keep attrition low.
  • Ensure all clients receive a positive client experience and take appropriate action to drive positive client outcomes.
  • Delivering client work in a timely, effective and efficient way, with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Accurately manage and undertake the implementation of client advice, with the support of the Paraplanners and the Administration team.
  • Ensure all relevant compliance, internal business documents have been completed and are located on the back office system.
  • Ensure all tasks are carried out and completed in line with company policy and procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of, and act in accordance with all Compliance and legislative obligations.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues.
  • Deal effectively with queries from colleagues and other parties through effective communication.
  • Liaise with product providers and other third parties effectively, where required.
  • Report any breaches in the first instance to the Compliance Manager.
  • Accurately and efficiently support the wider team to enable the achievement of standard internal business targets for suitability reports and research.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Proactively enhance industry and company knowledge, through external and internal sources.


Advanced responsibilities

  • To participate in and/or support key projects and practice/technical initiatives across the firm as required.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the Management Team on new and existing processes to aid in the development of these.


Relevant experience, skills and knowledge

  • Understanding of a variety of Financial Planning processes.
  • Able to work with defined business processes.
  • Ability to achieve agreed outcomes without supervision.
  • Detailed and accurate – eye for detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Fully competent in desktop applications (proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of software (Intelliflo, Dynamic Planner, Adviser Asset, Truth and other financial planning systems).
  • Able to analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data with a view to diagnosing a challenge or opportunity and creating a suitable strategy for a client.
  • Comfortable working on own initiative, setting and managing personal goals, directing workflow and managing often conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and to deal with individuals at all levels.
  • Team working: Ability to contribute as part of a team, and deal with individuals at all levels within the business.
  • Professional integrity: Ability to practice and maintain appropriate and ethical behaviour.
  • Promote open and constructive relations with clients, colleagues and providers.
  • Flexibility and commitment to continual service development and improvement.
  • Presenting solutions to clients and technical subjects to fellow professionals.
  • Marketing and selling the firm’s proposition to prospective clients of the firm.
  • Tactful, trustworthy, diplomatic and able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning and ideally Chartered (or close to) and able to demonstrate practical application of technical knowledge.
  • Current Statement of Professional Standing (SPS) and up to date CPD.
  • Strong awareness of regulatory regime and application to an independent advisory firm.
