I am working with a leading UK law firm to assist in the recruitment of a Commercial and Pricing Manager due to recent growth and a heightened focus on pricing and profitability.


This is the first role of it’s kind at the firm and will involve establishing a solid framework for assessing profitability across clients, teams, and offices, while working closely with Business Management to enhance practice efficiency and optimize work delivery. Additionally, the role will support the Business Development team in preparing pitches and responding to RFPs, contributing to the Firm’s strategic growth and financial success.


The Commercial and Pricing Manager will develop a comprehensive understanding of the Firm's departments, practice groups, and clients to support strategic pricing initiatives. Key responsibilities include streamlining the annual rate-setting process, developing office-specific rates, and reviewing client-specific rates. The role requires working closely with partners to assess client profitability and recommend alternative resourcing models. This includes conducting profitability analyses to assist senior stakeholders in evaluating fee proposals and making informed business decisions. Effective communication with the business is crucial to discuss pricing strategies, brainstorm creative fee proposals, manage rates, and optimize efficiency. Additionally, the role supports budgeting and matter management initiatives alongside the Working Capital team, contributes to new pricing services, and tracks business success. It also entails crafting strategic staffing solutions based on alternative fee arrangements, handling client RFPs, preparing analysis models, and implementing a post-matter review process, while also managing ad hoc analysis requests.


The ideal candidate should have at least two years of relevant experience, preferably in a legal or professional services setting. Familiarity with legal industry KPIs and the competitive landscape is preferred, along with experience in procurement or responding to RFPs. Strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities are essential for success in this role.
