The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) is an executive agency of HM Treasury, established to improve the quality of internal audit provided to central government. 

The Head of Information Security and Data Management is a pivotal role in the Central Services team within the Corporate Centre. The successful candidate will be GIAA’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) and accountable for the effective planning, implementation and monitoring of GIAA’s information security, data management and data protection.

In this important role they will identify the key opportunities within the Agency for improving our information security and data management maturity and mitigating the risks we have, programming and delivering a plan of work.

About the Job

The successful candidate will:

  1. Create an information security, data management and data protection strategy and action plan which aligns with the Agency’s vision and direction.
  2. Lead on work to analyse and improve current data management, information security and data protection frameworks.
  3. Monitor internal compliance, inform and advise on our data protection obligations and act as a contact point for data subjects and the Information Commissioner.
  4. Provide information management, security and data protection advice and guidance to the SIRO, deputy DPO, and Head of IT, alongside delivering guidance and education to all our people.
  5. Provide assurance at a strategic level that GIAA complies with the requirements of data protection legislation.
  6. Advise on and monitor our compliance with the DPA 2018 and UK GDPR and manage the relationships with other organisations including the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
  7. Proactively monitor risks to information security, data management and data protection.
  8. Provide leadership and line management to the Information Security and Data Protection team.

About You

You will need to have relevant experience as a Data Protection Officer, with in depth knowledge of information security, data management and data protection legislation, practices, and processes. The successful candidate will have experience of advising senior leaders on complex issues, and of leading change and continuous improvement.

Candidates must be appropriately qualified – a Data Practitioner Certificate is essential, and a Certificate in Risk Management (PCIRM) would be desirable.
