Founded in 1990, this team of experts are independently relied on in over 70 countries to differentiate the best legal talent for when it really matters, connecting client needs to the right talent across discipline and expertise.  They implement an in-depth research methodology involving detailed interviews and analysis of capabilities, achievement and sector presence, and produce bespoke reports for clients. As a team of around 500 people in London, with a presence in New York, the continued success of this firm has led to further growth in the UK - they are currently opening their brand new office in Birmingham, with multiple graduate research vacancies available Job description - Junior Research AssociateIn this Graduate Research Analyst role, you will play a pivotal role in transforming commentary compiled by research teams into valuable insights for law firms. The success of the insight team is integral to the overall success of the business. As a Research Associate, you will be assigned a law firm’s report to write and must use the data provided by research to draw sensible conclusions about the reasons for the firm and its lawyers’ rankings. You'll write 200-400 words of compelling copy in every chapter of the report to answer all of a firm’s potential questions about the rankings.  Key responsibilities - Junior Research AssociateIn this Legal Writing role in Birmingham, you'll be involved in:
  • Using the research database to find relevant raw commentary.
  • Tidying interview comments for sense and clarity.
  • Anonymising comments by removing any information that could reveal the identity of the speaker.
  • Coming to appropriate conclusions regarding final ranking decisions, incorporating research notes left by the research team.
  • Writing compelling copy that is clear, concise and easily understood by a layperson.
  • Summarising findings in a short executive summary.
  • Analysing the wider market and writing about competitor trends in CMI reports after an appropriate period of training.
  • Using appropriate software to accurately translate interviews that were conducted in languages other than English.
  • Maintaining a high standard of accuracy in reports by ensuring that factual information is correct and up to date.
 Job requirements - Junior Research Associate
  • A 2:1 or above from a top university, ideally in a writing-focused subject (English, History, etc.).
  • All degree types are welcome, particularly if you have conducted writing from data & research sources, e.g. medical writing, scientific report writing etc. 
  • Some foundational experience in a written-based commercial role is highly advantageous - examples being communications internships, writing for your student newspaper, and personal writing projects.
  • Impeccable writing skills: you must be able to write clearly and concisely, with exceptional spelling and grammar.
  • An incredibly high attention to detail and a stickler for perfection.
  • The ability to draw broad conclusions after examining raw data and research notes.
  • The ability to closely follow house style. 
  • Intellectually curious.
