About the Role:

As a New Product Lighting Designer, you will be instrumental in shaping our client’s product offerings and driving the success of high-value projects. You will leverage your extensive experience to deliver exceptional results, working on diverse projects that span aesthetic solutions to industrial luminaires.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovative Product Design: Design a range of products, including aesthetic solutions, industrial luminaires, handheld remotes, control units, and wiring boxes, using techniques like sheet metal fabrication, injection moulding, and die casting.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analyze competitor products and market conditions to inform project briefs and ensure competitive advantage.
  • Concept Generation and Development: Create and develop innovative concepts from specifications, validating principles with physical prototypes and CAD models for managerial and director approval.
  • Collaborative Development: Work closely with internal production departments and external suppliers, such as tool makers and moulders, to develop proposals, create tooling drawings, and assemble documentation.
  • Project Management: Oversee and manage entire product families, from servicing and revising legacy documentation to driving individual projects through the entire design process, from initial idea creation to production manufacture and product launch.
  • CAD and Document Management: Manage the design department's CAD and document management software, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and optimal workflow.
  • Customer-Focused Innovation: Collaborate with commercial teams to generate new product ideas that meet customer specifications, focusing on innovation.


What You’ll Need:

  • Education: A degree or equivalent qualification in Design or Engineering.
  • Experience: Ideally, 5+ years of commercial experience.
  • Design Expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical/product design principles and development processes.
  • CAD Proficiency: Proficiency in CAD for creating 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings. Skilled in 3D modelling, assemblies, rendering, and PDM software. Experience with Inventor is preferred, but knowledge of other software is also valuable.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Broad knowledge of various manufacturing materials and processes, particularly sheet metal fabrication. Experience with plastic mouldings, aluminium castings, and extrusions is beneficial.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships and communicate effectively across departments.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to tackle complex problems with innovative solutions.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills with a focus on delivering high-value outcomes.
