Position Summary:
Our customer, a global law firm are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Conflicts Attorney to join their Conflicts & Risks Management Team. This is a long term contract role (12+ months). In this role, you will assist partners from global offices with identifying and resolving conflicts of interest, reviewing and negotiating engagement terms, and conducting due diligence on corporate clients and adversaries. You will also ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and professional responsibility rules across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conflict Resolution: Identify and resolve both legal and commercial conflicts of interest, adhering to firm policies and professional responsibility rules in multiple jurisdictions.
- Engagement Terms: Review, evaluate, and assist in negotiating client-issued engagement terms to ensure compliance with the firm’s standards and regulatory requirements.
- Due Diligence: Perform thorough due diligence on corporate clients, adversaries, and related entities, including reviewing corporate affiliations, SEC filings, public records, sanctions, and other materials to identify potential conflicts and risks.
- Drafting and Documentation: Draft and review conflict waivers, engagement letters, and other related documents or memos to manage and mitigate potential conflicts of interest.
- Research: Conduct electronic research on legal issues, corporate structures, public records, and sanctions, using various databases and sources to assess conflicts and ethical considerations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with firm partners, legal teams, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient business intake processes and timely resolutions of any conflict-related issues.
- Advisory Role: Provide accurate, clear, and timely advice to partners and internal teams on conflict-related matters, ethical concerns, and potential risk areas.
Qualifications:
- Education: Qualified lawyer.
- Experience: Experience in a conflicts or compliance-related role, ideally within a law firm or corporate setting. Experience with conflict of interest reviews, legal due diligence, or business intake is preferred.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of legal ethics, professional responsibility rules, and the regulatory frameworks governing conflicts of interest in multiple jurisdictions.
