We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Ophthalmic Assistant to join our dynamic team in the Outpatient Department at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment, supporting the delivery of high-quality care to our diverse patient base.These role would ideally suit an experienced Ophthalmic Technician who can support our consultant body and patients by performing a range of scans including OCT, Topography, Biometry, Visual Fields, Visual Acuities and pressures. We have recently expanded the service and invested in new equipment to be able to offer a dedicated service. We also perform procedures within the department including chalazions and blepharoplasties in our minor procedures suite.Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our luxury private Hospital has an international reputation for providing the highest quality of care to patients and is unique in that all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.Am I the right person for this Ophthalmic Assistant?Previous experience in a similar role.Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures/equipment (training available).Strong communication and organisational skills.Team player with attention to detail.Previous experience in a private healthcare facility.Extensive experience as a Staff Nurse in a similar healthcare environmentExcellent people skills, good communication and observation abilityTo have sound knowledge and experience within the various clinical specialtiesDemonstrable experience in mentoring junior staffExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary teamAdhere to the Code of Conduct for Nursing and the Data Protection ActAbility to work under pressure and with high volumes of work during peak timesWhat would my responsibilities be as a Ophthalmic Assistant?Assist with patient tests and procedures.Independently perform diagnostic tests (e.g., visual acuity, tonometry, OCT, Biometry). Maintain exam rooms and equipment.Assist with inventory and other clinical tasks.To ensure documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales using Hospital approved documentation, in line with NMC and Hospital guidelines.To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for patients.Ensure that each patient is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated, and that this is accurately documented.Ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring and safe environment for patients and their families.To communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, care's and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.To develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide holistic, evidence based nursing care.
