The Birmingham office opened in 2015 and has a number of practice areas including Corporate/Commercial Construction Finance Litigation Arbitration and Employment (LAE) and Real Estate as well as ourLegal Delivery Centre and Business Team.Department Description Hogan Lovells New Business Conflicts Department is charged with investigating legal conflicts of interest and firm business issues. If conflicts of interest or business issues are identified the department is charged with rectifying those issues prior to the matter being approved by a partner on the Ethics Committee and a firm matter number being opened.Role Overview This position is responsible for assisting the Conflicts Supervisor and other members of the New Business Conflicts & Compliance department (US LLP) and Firm Administration with corporate and conflicts database research; and the review of conflicts of interest issues related to potential new business new lateral candidates support staff and various special interest initiatives in the firm such as identification of sanctioned entities to ensure compliance with laws in certain jurisdictions and assisting with various special interest initiatives for the firm.Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities Assist firm attorneys and members of the firms management in the identification and resolution of conflicts of interest.Assist in the identification of potential conflicts of interest through corporate and conflicts database research of client and matter information provided by requesting attorney potential attorney assistant and support staff.Conduct database research and analysis of the data.Assist with maintenance and update of the conflicts database.Research corporate history of clients and parties related to former and new client work.Respond to attorney and staff requests and perform conflicts of interest searches.Resolution and clearance of business sensitivity issues and straightforward conflicts of interest.Coordinate receipt and documentation and preparation of engagement letters and client waivers and / or consents.Assist members of the New Business Conflicts and Compliance department with a wide range of research requests and other projects.General administrative duties including proofreading and filing.Assist the New Business Conflicts and Compliance department with a wide range of research requests and other projects related to the research resolution and clearance of basic conflicts of interest issues as assigned including but not limited to no-party matters and new matters for existing clients non-portable lateral issues or staff and contractor conflicts checks.Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure staff location or services.All members of the firm participate in our Responsible Business program.Person Specification Skills and ExperienceStrong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.Excellent planning and organisational skills time management written and verbal communication skills.At least 9 months of Conflicts research or law firm experience.3E database or comparable database experience.General AttributesPersonable positive and responsible.Intention of learning and growing within Hogan Lovells.Informed career direction of pursuing a career within Conflicts.Commerciality - must be focused on delivering high quality service in a fast paced and challenging environment.Ability to effectively manage workload with supervision from senior team members until experienced enough to handle workload independently.Reliable and dependable.Ability to handle queries efficiently with diplomacy and tact.An effective and diligent team member with the ability to handle independent projects.Ability to follow instructions precisely.Self-starter with proven initiative and strong work ethic.High attention to detail.Agile Working Statement Our goal is to embed flexibility across our business by giving everyone the opportunity to work in an agile way whether as a regular pattern or on an ad hoc basis and we will be happy to discuss this further.Equal Opportunities Employment Statement It is the policy of Hogan Lovells to provide equal opportunities for all employees in relation to recruitment training and promotion.
