Principal Mechanical Engineer

Wood is actively seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in Rotating Equipment & Packages and significant experience in the oil and gas sector, to join our Simpler Solutions HUB team.
General
- Contribute to the delivery of engineering excellence through:
- Definition and approval of technical scopes
- Executing assigned scopes of work
- Providing technical expertise to the business
- Contributing to business growth
- Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products, processes or techniques
- Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products, and equipment
- Uses advanced technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables including complex problems and to complete any project tasks with minimal guidance and direction
- May serve as the Lead Engineer or the project Technical Authority on projects and hold advanced level specialization in one or more areas of expertise
- Functions as a technical specialist who develops applications, hypothesis, approaches and applies advanced engineering concepts to unique engineering problems
- In addition to specialization, generally directs highly qualified professionals engaged in complex engineering projects
- Provides technical reviews for complex project within the area of expertise
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Extensive experience in mechanical engineering, focusing on rotating equipment and package engineering in the oil and gas industry, with significant experience in greenfield and brownfield projects and equipment modifications.
- Responsible for the proper and timely execution of projects within the mechanical section by ensuring the mechanical department's quality management system and project-specific contractual requirements, including ensuring safety and healthy environment on the project.
- Lead the design, selection, and analysis of rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, and blowers for various oil and gas applications and packages with a strong emphasis on greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Lead and manage all phases of engineering projects, including Study, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed engineering and execution phases under Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) contracts.
- Develop and review engineering deliverables, including equipment datasheets, technical specifications, material requisitions and scopes of work for rotating equipment and packaged systems, ensuring they meet project requirements.
- Conduct technical evaluations of supplier proposals and perform bid analysis to ensure compliance with project specifications, technical requirements, and budget constraints.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process, electrical, civil, and instrumentation engineers, providing technical input to ensure cohesive and efficient design solutions.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to specify and procure rotating equipment and package components, ensuring all equipment complies with project requirements and industry standards.
- Review and approve vendor documents, ensuring they meet project specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee package management to ensure all equipment and systems are designed, fabricated, tested and delivered according to project schedules and specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, piping model reviews and risk assessments to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation, particularly in greenfield and brownfield environments.
- Oversee modifications and upgrades to existing rotating equipment and packaged systems to enhance performance, efficiency, and reliability.
- Support site teams during modification and commissioning, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure successful project execution.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant industry standards, codes and safety regulations, including API, ASME, EN, and ISO.
- Manage project schedules to deliver projects on time and within scope, with a strong understanding of greenfield/ brownfield challenges and solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of mechanical engineers, ensuring adherence to best practices and engineering standards.
- Regularly report to the line manager, providing accurate progress updates, highlighting risks or issues, and recommending solutions to ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Keep up to date with technological advancements and industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement in equipment design.
- Implement lessons learned, facilitate knowledge sharing, and promote value-added practices

Additional Requirements:
- Proficiency in tools such as MS word, excel, PDF, Bluebeam, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage engineering projects, with excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Offshore experience would be beneficial
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Level 6 Bachelors (minimum) or Level 7 Masters (preferred) Degree in mechanical engineering discipline, alternatively, tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience can be used to demonstrate equivalence
- Chartership, PE Status or relevant professional license/registration accredited by a recognized body preferred
