Job Description
- Job Title: Payroll Apprentice
- Job Location: Ellesmere Port (during training fully office-based, once completed 1 day per week from home)
- Working Hours: 35 hours (Monday to Friday - 9am to 5pm)
- Salary: £8 per hour
As a Payroll Apprentice, you will work closely with our experienced Payroll Manager to gain hands-on practical experience in processing payroll for our diverse workforce. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn the ins and outs of payroll administration, including statutory payments, deductions, and compliance with UK employment laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll for employees.
- Ensure accurate data entry of employee information, including tax codes, pay rates, and hours worked.
- Support the calculation of statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, and SPP.
- Help manage payroll queries from employees and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Learn how to maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of payroll reports and reconciliation tasks.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll legislation and best practices.
Qualifications

- Enthusiasm to Learn: A genuine interest in payroll and eagerness to develop your skills.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Numeracy Skills: Comfortable working with numbers and data.
- Communication Skills: Ability to interact with colleagues at all levels and handle queries effectively.
- IT Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is desirable.
- Qualifications: GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (grade C/4 or above). A-levels or equivalent qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
