The Head of Business Development is a new position within the recently created Tekever Defence Business Unit.
Tekever Defence is responsible for the development and delivery of Tekever’s capability offering to the Defence market. As a technology company working in Defence, we aim to bring new and innovative products and approaches to solve complex defence problems in months not years. Tekever Defence is a group level division within the Tekever Group and is designed to work across global markets and defence product lines. The Division is split into 4 main departments – Defence Technologies, Delivery, Operations, and Business Development.
The Business Development Team leads Tekever Defence’s market engagement. UAS, autonomy, software and AI are at the core of Tekever’s product offerings with plans for further expansion. The BD team is at the forefront of engaging with our customers and is responsible for identifying, shaping and delivering on new market opportunities inline with Tekever’s ambitious growth plans.
As Head of Business Development, you will be expected to play a critical role in delivering Tekever’s growth strategy. This is an exciting position and you will be given significant autonomy and empowerment to deliver on your outputs. As a senior leader within Tekever, you will sit on the Tekever Defence Management group and be given the opportunity to influence and shape activity across the division based on your extensive experience. specific responsibilities will include:
- Strategy. Set the Business Development strategy for Tekever Defence prioritising resources and markets for highly ambitious growth targets.
- Leadership. Lead, grow and develop the Tekever Defence Business Development team fostering a culture of high performance and innovation.
- Engage. Build and sustain a strong network of senior customer and industry stakeholders in order to identify and leverage market opportunities.
- Shape. Support the Tekever Capabilities Team in shaping and supporting customer requirements inline with innovative market solutions.
- Knowledge. Act as the centre of excellence for Defence market knowledge within Tekever, identifying market trends, gaps and opportunities.
- Deliver. Lead on customer briefings, bid and tender submissions, and contract negotiations for the defence market.
This is a wide-reaching role with a high degree of autonomy and authority. You will be entrusted and empowered to deliver and will need to be comfortable working in a highly demanding environment. You will need to be an exceptional matrix leader, managing cross functional teams across Tekever, ranging from specialist engineers to operational personnel. Above all, you will need to be an innovative thinker – you will have a passion for solving defence problems and a drive to see your ideas to fruition. You will also be a fast learner and need to quickly develop and champion a comprehensive understanding of Tekever’s core technologies and products.
You will be based in Bath with an expectation of at least 3 days a week office working. You will also expected to travel frequently (minimum 20%) to other locations in the UK, Portugal and Europe.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the Tekever Defence Business Development Team
- Act as a senior leader within the Tekever Defence Business unit championing our values and supporting other teams as required;
- Lead the development and implementation of Tekever’s BD strategy for the defence market:
- Develop and maintain an exceptional network of contacts across the industry in order to identify new opportunities and key market trends.
- Act as a senior leader within the Tekever Defence Business unit championing our values and supporting other teams as required
- Identify, shape and capture high value market opportunities within the global defence market
- Lead the submission of bids and tender responses for complex defence requirements.
Essential Competencies:
- Post-Graduate education in relevant field
- An undergraduate degree in a STEM subject
- At least 10 years’ experience working in Defence in either government or industry with a record of exceptional performance
- Proven leadership experience of a cross-functional team including technical staff
- Proven experience of driving new and novel approaches to problem solving in a defence context
- Experience in the technical and operational challenges of developing and delivering complex technologies for the defence
- Knowledge of the defence procurement cycle
- Extensive defence market knowledge with a preference towards UAS, autonomy or AI.
Desirable Competencies:
- Experience of leading a successful business development team in a related field;
- A strong academic interest in the challenges of modern warfare
- Experience in developing senior relationships with global defence stakeholders and understanding
- Commercial experience a benefit
- Specialist knowledge of ISR UAS and related C2 systems, including sensors and payloads
