This role ensures moulds operate efficiently reliably and meet product quality standards while driving improvements in mould performance cycle time and cost effectiveness. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:Key Accountabilities:Oversee the design of new moulds (in partnership with supplier) or modify existing moulds based on product requirements and specificationsSelect appropriate materials and manufacturing methods for mould constructionPrepare technical documentation including mould drawings specifications and maintenance reports.Ensure all moulds meet company and industry quality standardsSupport engineering to develop standard procedures and best practices relating to mould design and tooling introductionsIntroduce new techniques and technologies to improve efficiency and extend mould lifeTooling Introduction Project Management (NPI Replacement & Optimisation)A cross-functional team is responsible for the delivery of NPI - this role will be accountable for the tooling aspects of NPI will require project management activities to control the tooling deliveryAll tooling replacements are managed within a stage gate processContribution towards the DIOPQ (Design Installation Operational and Performance Qualification) of tooling Verification of tool design pre-shipment. This role is responsible for design qualification and will be a key contributor to the remaining qualification gatesShop floor presence during IQ/OQ/PQ to provide SME advice to optimisation yield/weight/cycle timeManage Key Supplier RelationshipsLiaise with international toolmakersparticularly in Chinato review challenge and refine tool designs for quality cost-effectiveness and manufacturabilityProvide SME advice on PPM activities and assist to resolve mould-related issues/breakdowns such as wear flashing leakage or dimensional deviationsWork closely with the quality team to address defects or non-conformancesAssociated Responsibilities:Work with suppliers toolmakers and external vendors on mould fabrication and repairs including tooling tender packsCollaborate with product design and manufacturing teams as SME (Subject matter expert) in tool design Contribute to training plans for production and maintenance teams on proper mould handling careSupport continuous improvement initiatives within the production environmentExperience and Training:Strong knowledge of CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD SolidWorks) and use of PDM. Mould flow simulation is desirableUnderstanding of materials science machining processes and mould manufacturing methods with a focus on industry best practices for injection moulding and compression mouldingProblem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues Desirable to have experience with lean manufacturing Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methods preferredThis role requires a high level of team ethos to work with procurement suppliers design engineering & operationsEssential Criteria:Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering material engineering or related field 3 years experience in one or more of low pressure / high pressure injection moulding / compression mouldingProven experience with thermoplastic / thermosetting tool moulding processes Essential Competencies:Ensures accountability Action orientated Business insight Collaborates Communicates effectively Decision quality Cultivates innovation Nimble learningPlans and aligns Resourcefulness *Note: This list is not exhaustive and may be updated based on business needs. Flexibility and adaptability are key aspects of this role.Location:To be based at Tallington (GB) or Stoke (GB) site. Locality to these main tooling sites will reduce the travel required in the role. The role may also require travel to other sites as the business grows/develops. There may an occasional requirement to witness FAT testing (typically in China) for high risk / high value projects.
