About The Role

Plympton Academy is seeking to appoint a high-quality Head of Design, Technology and Engineering.

You will join a committed team of Teachers and will be instrumental in providing an outstanding education at the Academy. The successful candidate will be a creative and dynamic practitioner who implements an engaging and effective curriculum that enthuses and engages students of all abilities and ages, while maintaining high expectations to ensure that every student reaches their full potential.

As Head of Design, Technology and Engineering, you will lead by example, develop, inspire and motivate your team and be committed to achieving high standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding teacher who is now looking for promotion to Head of Department in a supportive and successful Academy or for an established Head of Design Technology and Engineering looking to continue the improvement journey that this department has already successfully started.

This is an exciting time to join our organisation as we expand our network of schools, building upon our established ethos and values. You will benefit from a vast support network including senior leaders, fellow teachers within the school and across the South West Hub and our Trust.

What you will need to succeed:

  • To develop, implement and quality assure an effective curriculum for Key stages 3, 4 and 5
  • Be passionate about teaching and learning and have a positive outlook and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good or Outstanding classroom practice with high expectations for achievements and behaviour
  • High expectations for yourself and the students to ensure that all of our students achieve their very best
  • An aspiring leader of learning and happy to grasp exciting CPD opportunities
  • Contribute to the values, ethos and the development of our schools

As Head of Department:

  • Effectively line manage staff within the department
  • Plan and lead department meetings with a focus on whole school priorities
  • Be a strong, visible presence within the department insisting on the highest standards of teaching, learning and behaviour
