The Role:
The Director of Governance role will play a crucial part in providing strategic direction and leadership in the development and implementation of governance policies and procedures, safeguarding the interests of the college. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the college's governance structures and policies are transparent, accountable and align with the college's mission, values and strategic objectives. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will ensure governance practices support the achievement of educational excellence.

Salary Scale: Circa £60,000 per annum pro rata

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Director of Governance
(Permanent part-time, 0.6 contract, term time only, 40 weeks)
Job location: Stanmore College, Stanmore Campus
Faculty: Cross College
Reporting to: Principal and Chair of Governors
Purpose of the role:
- Responsible for providing independent, high-quality advice and guidance on statutory, constitutional, operational, procedural and ethical issues.
- Accountable to the corporation, through the Chair, on all matters relating to their duties.
- A strategic leadership position responsible for ensuring high standards of governance.
- Provide leadership, advice and support in all governance activities and compliance.
- Provide regular advice and support to all governors.
- Lead and execute a Programme of continuous governance improvement.
- Support the corporation in evaluating their effectiveness and give advice on sector developments.
- Keep abreast of current and emerging guidance and legislation.
- Take action if the corporation appears to be at risk of acting outside their powers.
Duties
- Promote sound standards of governance.
- Review legislative and regulatory developments.
- Independently brief the Chair and governors on current issues.
- Develop and implement an effective annual governance plan.
- Ensure effective risk identification and management.
- Provide advice and support to the Chair, Vice Chair, and committee Chairs.
- Draft all statutory documentation on behalf of the board.
- Liaise with external counterparts and stakeholders.
- Anticipate and respond to stakeholder requirements.
- Membership of project groups or sub-committees.
General Duties:
- Participate in staff review/performance management processes.
- Ensure health and safety of self and others.
- Pursue equal opportunities throughout all college activities.
- Undertake any other tasks appropriate to the level of this post.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
