Reporting To: Design Manager


Datalink Electronics designs and manufactures electronic products. We specialise in high-technology product development and low-to-medium volume manufacturing. We are more than your traditional ‘Contract Electronics Manufacturer’ (CEM). We pride ourselves in customer satisfaction; putting customers’ needs at the forefront of everything we do. We offer on-going engineering support over a product's lifecycle.


Hybrid flexible working is available with this role. Typically, you would be expected to be in the office 3 days a week.


Permanent, Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.

Typical working hours (negotiable): 08:00 till 16:30 (Monday – Thursday), 08:00 till 13:30 (Friday)

25 Days Holiday (3 fixed at Christmas) + Bank Holidays

Key Requirements and Experience

  • Qualified to degree level (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of commercial electronics design and development.
  • Microcontroller development (ARM, PIC, etc) and embedded firmware development (C).
  • Design and development of electronic circuits (analog and digital).
  • Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout (Altium Designer or equivalent).
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers.
  • Ensuring that designs are produced to customer specifications.
  • Technical and assembly drawings of PCBAs and mechanical sub-assemblies.
  • Prototype construction and testing.
  • Specification of test and manufacturing procedures for the new products.
  • Understanding of anti-static (ESD) precautions.
  • Basic soldering ability (through-hole and simple SMT components).
  • Thorough understanding of standard electronic laboratory equipment (Oscilloscope, Multimeter, etc.).


Desirable Experience

  • Embedded development using RTOS (e.g. FreeRTOS, Zepher OS, etc.).
  • Experience using nRF (Nordic Semiconductor) and/or STM32 Microcontrollers.
  • Computer programming and/or scripting experience (e.g., C#, Java, Python).
  • Experience using Altium Designer.
  • Experience designing for EMC (Electromagnetic Compliance) and electrical safety.
