Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

Are you ready to lead, innovate, and elevate process engineering in the water sector?

Join our Water UK&I team as the Technical Head of Process Engineering, where you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction, quality, and innovation of our projects across the UK & Ireland. At AECOM, we’re committed to delivering transformative solutions through an exceptional portfolio of water programs, tackling some of the most pressing infrastructure challenges alongside major UK water companies and international clients.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to drive technical excellence and mentor a team of skilled engineers in collaboration with our global Water Technical Practice Group. From advancing our digital transformation efforts to being a technical lead in our most complex, high-impact projects, you’ll be at the forefront of what’s next in water engineering.

This role offers flexibility to be based at any of our offices across the UK&I, along with the benefits of our hybrid working model.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Lead Technical Excellence: Working with our Technical Excellence Director and other Technical Heads, act as the focal point for technical performance in Process Engineering, setting standards and ensuring best practices are shared across teams. Drive knowledge-sharing initiatives with regional Leads and take an active role in industry events and recruitment fairs.
  • Support Project Resourcing and Development: Collaborate with Operational Directors to align resources on projects, manage succession planning, and support hiring. Identify training needs and ensure technical career development plans are identified for team members.
  • Ensure Quality Delivery: Provide technical oversight on complex projects through engineering reviews (HAZOP, SWIFT, ALM), maintaining AECOM’s high standards. Set and manage quality standards and templates to ensure consistent delivery across all water projects.
  • Connect in our Global Technical Practice Groups: Establish relationships with a global group of technical peers, enabling two-way sharing of best practice, development of innovations and expanding career paths for our teams.

If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, AECOM welcomes you. Join our team, where we don't just construct infrastructure but also uplift communities and enhance lives.

Come grow with us.

Become part of our dynamic Water business, which boasts around 700 experts across the UK & Ireland. Collaborate with top-tier civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, all the way from concept to completion. Here, you’ll thrive in an inclusive and forward-thinking environment where your contributions are valued.

Enjoy the Perks.

At AECOM, you'll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well-being, customised to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience leading process engineering initiatives, particularly within water and wastewater treatment projects, from initial design through to construction.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to foster team collaboration and interface effectively with clients.
  • A degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biology or Chemical Engineering with appropriate Professional Qualifications and acumen.

We celebrate equity, diversity and inclusion and believe it enriches our team. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and abilities. If you are an applicant with a disability that requires reasonable accommodation to complete the application process, please contact us at ReasonableAdjustments@aecom.com. At AECOM, we value everyone's unique contributions and perspectives.

If you meet some of the requirements above or have transferable skills you believe would benefit us, we would be delighted to hear from you
