Position: GIS Consultant

Location: HQ in Edinburgh, offices also in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Reading.

Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum


Role Overview:

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled GIS Consultant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering geospatial solutions to a wide range of clients across the UK. You will be responsible for the management, analysis, and visualisation of spatial data to support decision-making processes and project delivery.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Data Management and Analysis:
  • Collect, manage, and analyse spatial data from various sources, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Perform advanced geospatial analysis to support client projects, including spatial modeling, network analysis, and statistical mapping.
  • Develop and maintain geospatial databases and ensure data quality standards are met.
  • Mapping and Visualization:
  • Create high-quality maps and visualizations using GIS software to communicate complex spatial information effectively.
  • Design and implement web-based GIS applications and dashboards for client use.
  • Project Support and Delivery:
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and other consultants to deliver GIS components of projects on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical advice and support to clients on the use of GIS and spatial data in their projects.
  • Client Engagement and Training:
  • Liaise with clients to understand their geospatial needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for clients on GIS software and data management practices.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is desirable.


Experience:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in GIS, with a focus on spatial data management, analysis, and visualization.
  • Experience working with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar.
  • Familiarity with spatial databases (e.g., PostGIS, SQL Server) and programming languages (e.g., Python, R) for geospatial analysis.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.) and tools for spatial analysis and data management.
  • Strong understanding of cartographic principles and experience in map production.
  • Experience in web GIS development and the use of web mapping services (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox).
  • Knowledge of a programming language and familiarity of visualisation tools


Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to clients and stakeholders.


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with remote sensing and satellite imagery analysis.
  • Knowledge of 3D GIS and spatial modeling.
  • Experience with project management and working in a consultancy environment.
