We continue to make significant progress on our dual areas of focus both as a regional catalyst for energy transition supporting the energy supply chain and through the delivery of the largest dedicated energy transition complex in Scotland, the Energy Transition Zone. This is a purpose-built net-zero green space connected to the coastline and adjacent to the new £420m deep water harbour development at Aberdeen South Harbour. This will be a leading-edge catalyst for innovation and high-value manufacturing, a centre of excellence for offshore renewables (floating wind in particular), hydrogen and other energy transition solutions such as CCUS.


Job Summary:


The Director, Offshore Renewables shall be responsible for driving the strategic growth and implementation of ETZ’s strategic priorities relating to offshore renewables. Building on your in-depth knowledge of, and extensive networks within offshore wind projects in Scotland, you will work to secure new high value offshore wind related investment for the Energy Transition Zone and wider region, delivering sustainable economic impact.


The successful candidate will support the supply chain team in connecting opportunities within the UK and, through SDI, to major offshore wind global projects for the benefit of regional energy supply chain companies. You will also play a key role in ensuring the success of major transformational projects such as The Floating Wind Innovation Centre (FLOWIC) well as identifying and developing similar transformational project opportunities.


Key to success in this role will be your ability to deliver projects and programmes, as such we are seeking candidates who have relevant, proven and demonstratable experience of strategic delivery.


Key Responsibilities:


Project Development:


  • Execute projects from initial development and business case through to final delivery.
  • Identify areas where intervention is required, define the appropriate project intervention including identifying partners, deliverables, funding, and outcomes.
  • Ensure all projects meet environmental, health, and safety standards.


Strategic Leadership:


  • Position ETZ as a key partner with Offshore Wind developers and Tier 1 contractors, to build investment partnerships and to support the delivery of their Supply Chain Development Statement ambitions across the region.
  • Act as a conduit between offshore wind developers and tier 1 contractors with the local supply chain.
  • Provide visible leadership across industry to amplify the strengths, opportunities, and depth of the regional supply chain across the key industry partners and organisations.
  • Develop, implement and deliver the company’s offshore renewable energy strategy.
  • Lead ETZ’s investment activities for offshore wind to attract new investment from overseas and from existing investors.
  • Work with Scottish Enterprise, SDI, Invest Aberdeen, and other partners, identify regions and companies that have the potential to invest in the UK, and Lead cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones and goals.


Financial Management:


  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective delivery of projects.
  • Secure funding for ETZ projects via public and private investment.
  • Monitor financial performance, outcomes and impacts and provide regular reports to the executive team.


Regulatory and Compliance:


  • Ensure compliance with UK regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Liaise with government bodies and industry groups to influence policy and regulatory frameworks that support the growth of offshore renewables.
  • Stay informed about changes in legislation, subsidies, and incentives affecting the offshore renewables sector.


Team Leadership:


  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • To provide expert support to ETZ Leadership Team and regular updates to the ETZ Board
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members.


Stakeholder Engagement:


  • Represent the company at industry conferences, public forums, and in the media as a spokesperson for offshore renewables.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including industry partners, suppliers, and government agencies.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Ideally, you will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field, or have equivalent relevant career experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale projects.
  • Strong knowledge of, and network within the UK offshore renewables market, including regulatory and policy landscape.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Commercially astute with a track record of building, developing and delivering propositions.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget management and securing project financing.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
