About us

DOHL is the public sector owning group for passenger rail, with responsibility for four train operators: LNER, Northern, Southeastern and TransPennine Express. We have a strong track record of delivering significantly improved train operations, customer service and performance and we have grown significantly since we successfully took responsibility for LNER in 2018. Today, the DOHL Group represents 25% of Britain’s railway, has almost 17,000 colleagues and makes over 270 million passenger journeys possible. We are strategically positioned to be a key player in shaping and delivering the future train operating landscape.

DOHL is a ‘Public Corporation’ of the Department for Transport. Whilst we work closely with the DfT and its advisers, we have our own governance and executive teams and remain politically neutral.


The role

DOHL is recruiting a Public Affairs Manager to lead on the coordination of its Public Affairs programme and to manage and support stakeholder and communications activity across the Group. You will work across a range of issues which impact the industry, helping to develop our policy positions and supporting senior leaders when engaging with external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

·      Support the Head of Public Affairs in developing DOHL’s public affairs approach

·      Manage and coordinate DOHL’s contact programme across the Group

·      Manage communications with MPs and other political stakeholders to develop a positive and productive dialogue

·      Briefing senior stakeholders within the business ahead of external engagement

·      Liaise with relevant agencies to ensure accurate reporting and issues management

·      Support the Head of Public Affairs with reports, briefings and the promotion of DOHL Group activity

·      Monitor FOIs, PQs and parliamentary correspondence

·      Support with relevant event management

·      Support the wider communications and stakeholder teams as required


Experience

·      Previous experience working in a public affairs role within the rail industry

·      Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills

·      Strong project management abilities

·      Ability to think strategically and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

·      Strong analytical skills and ability to use data to inform decision-making

·      Detailed understanding of Parliamentary process and devolved authorities.
