1. JOB DESCRIPTION

A graduate electrical engineer will support more senior engineers on the production of building services design information including sketches, drawings, calculations, and technical schedules.

A good engineering degree is essential as well as some background knowledge of building services and building management / control system design, though as a graduate engineer with no previous experience it is expected that the candidate will learn the majority of the skills required on the job through in house training.

Within the first year of employment a graduate will learn how to create 2D drawings using AutoCAD software and gain some experience of 3D modelling of building services using REVIT software.

In addition, a graduate engineer will learn to use modelling and electrical design software for use in lighting design, equipment sizing and wiring analysis.

After 6 to 12 months’ employment a graduate engineer can also expect to attend external design team meetings and workshop as well as accompany more senior engineers on site visits.

2. RESPONSIBILITIES

– To carry out, under supervision, electrical load calculations, lighting modelling, equipment sizing, wiring analysis and containment sizing.

– To produce, under supervision, design information such as sketches, drawings, and technical schedules.

– To take initiative in response to instruction and take responsibility for their area of work.

– To collaborate with the internal team, communicate design ideas and gain an understanding of the project.

– To communicate with their Line Manager to review tasks and manage workload.

– To liaise with equipment manufacturers and utility suppliers to review technical equipment selections, make utility applications, and ensure they meet the requirements of the design.

– To liaise with the external design team to coordinate the design, when appropriate and with supervision.

– To become a graduate member of either CIBSE (The Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers) or IET (The institute of Electrical Engineers) or both (Integration will cover membership fees).

– To seek and record evidence of continuing professional development (CDP) in accordance with CIBSE or IMechE guidelines.

– To be aware of and comply with Integration’s internal standards and procedures.

3. REQUIREMENTS

– Legally able to work in the U.K. (We do not offer sponsorship to graduates. Please do not apply if you do not meet this requirement.)

– Good degree in either Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering or other relevant engineering degree.

– Awareness of environmental design and sustainability issues in construction.

– Solid understanding of electrical circuits knowledge.

– Problem solving and critical thinking skills.

– Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.

– Enthusiasm for learning and innovation.

– Ability to use Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint in preparing reports, specifications, and calculations.

– Integrity and commitment.

– Good interpersonal skills with an approachable, positive, and flexible attitude.

– Good organisational skills.

– Good communication and written skills.

– Attention to detail.

4. DESIRABLE

– Experience using 3D modelling/BIM software such as REVIT.

– Experience using electrical design software.

– Programming skills.

– Awareness of current trends in building management and control systems, renewable energies, electric vehicles, batteries, building services design and sustainability in construction.
