£75k + 10% bonus + pension
Role Overview
A leading UK tech company is looking for an experienced Lead BI Developer to play a pivotal role in driving the future success of our business through data-driven insights. As they look to optimise their infrastructure and enhance customer experience, the Lead BI Developer will be at the heart of transforming complex data into actionable business intelligence. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, manage, and mentor the BI development team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the BI strategy, ensuring alignment with broader business goals.
- Set performance objectives, conduct regular reviews, and provide ongoing development opportunities for team members.
- Oversee multiple BI projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and with high-quality results.
BI Development & Implementation
- Define and enforce BI development standards, processes, and best practices.
- Design, develop, and implement data reporting and analytical solutions in Azure.
- Build, test, and support mission-critical BI applications to meet business needs.
- Create complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and Power Pivot models to drive insights.
Insight Generation & Analysis
- Analyse large, complex datasets and convert them into actionable business insights.
- Collaborate with key business stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into effective BI solutions.
- Convert complex business logic into database design using T-SQL, stored procedures, views, and user-defined functions.
- Develop and optimize DAX functions in Power BI for better reporting and insights.
Automation & Optimization
- Automate Power BI data refreshes using PowerShell scripts and Azure Automation.
- Optimize table performance through index analysis and system enhancements.
- Cleanse and enrich data using Derived Columns, Lookups, and Conditional Split techniques.
Best Practices & Continuous Improvement
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to improve BI processes and systems.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and ethical codes, including compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership (technical and people) experience, with the ability to manage and mentor a high-performing BI team.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a track record of analyzing data, identifying issues, and designing practical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Expertise in Power BI development, including dashboard creation, data refresh automation, and managing gateways.
- Advanced skills in DAX, Power Query, and building complex Power BI models.
- Proficient in SQL development, including creating and optimizing queries, stored procedures, views, and user-defined functions.
- Experience with Azure data services, including Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Factory pipelines.
- Strong understanding of Data Warehousing concepts and best practices, with experience working with large datasets.
- Familiarity with Power Platform and MS Dataverse.
- Experience with source control (e.g., Git) and CI/CD processes for BI environments.
Desirable Qualifications
- Relevant certifications, such as Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) or Microsoft Azure Power BI certification.
