This post works within the Assistive Technology Service, assisting with planning and decision making to support a timely and robust provision of assistive technology support to clients across Norfolk.

The Assistive Technology Liaison Officers will work closely with the Assistive Technology Practitioners as part of a Duty team triaging and providing technology enabled care solutions to a wide range of clients.

NCC’s Assistive Technology service was established in 2005. The service offer has increased year on year with significant expansion of the service since 2016.

In 2023 the Assistive Technology joined Norfolk First Response as part of Norfolk County Council’s reablement directorate. Assistive Technology sits alongside the other services in the Department, including Community Social Work, Commissioning and Integrated Care.

The Assistive Technology service continues to develop and adapt to fulfil its role in Adult Social Services’ vision to support people to be independent, resilient and well. Increasing the use of technology supports NCC’s prevention responsibilities and supports the delivery of Norfolk Futures priorities.

ASSD’s Promoting Independence Board and ASTEC (Adult Services Technology Enabled Care) Steering Group continue to support the AT business case and associated change projects to enhance and expand the scope of the current service and the increased utilisation of assistive technology within adult social care.

The Assistive Technology environment is a rapidly expanding one, with the service making increased use of new technologies to provide a wide range of solutions. The range of technology used by the service includes:

Telecare : sensors and detectors linked to a rented community alarm, sending alerts to a monitoring centre. Stand-alone technology : devices working in the immediate vicinity to prompt or alert person or carer. GPS enabled devices : devices for locating people out in their community. Home activity monitoring systems : provided for short or long term assessment of activity within the home to inform care and support planning. Mainstream technology : . video doorbells, wi-fi enabled sensors, smart speakers, and apps.

This list is by no means exhaustive, and the team take a person centred approach to find the right technology fit to the person’s needs.

The Assistive Technology Liaison Officers will support the wider team to maintain high standards and a quality service to clients. The Assistive Technology Liaison Officers will act as a co-ordinator of information between Assistive Technology Practitioners; Clients and their families; Suppliers and Installers.
