Job Summary
We are looking to recruit a Senior Civil / Structural Engineer to work in our York office. The role will be a hybrid role split between the office and Working from Home therefore the candidate must be within commuting distance of the York office. The role is a full time permanent role.

The position will be within the rail civils / structures design team and requires the candidate to have demonstrable experience across all stages of the design from feasibility to construction (GRIP 1-8 / PACE ES 1-8).

you will require a strong technical civil and / or structural background with evidence of experience on station design, non-complex bridge design and / or assessment and railway ancillary civils designs being beneficial. This should include competence in various structural design and detailing software packages to support design delivery with evidence of their own experience with digital design delivery.

The individual shall have a track record of leading a team in multi-disciplinary design delivery while managing project budgets and delivery to key programme milestones. They shall also have demonstrable evidence of supporting the development of junior engineers and technicians, both on the job and towards their own professional development goals.

Experience in undertaking the role of CRE would be beneficial however is not essential with opportunities given to develop toward undertaking the role with mentorship as required.

The candidate should also be competent to undertake independent checking of design submissions (calculations, drawings, reports, specifications) in accordance with the requirements of NR/L2/CIV/003.
The individual should have excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form and have experience with client facing roles.

A clear understanding of Construction, Design and Management Regulations 2015 is also essential with experience in the use of Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment beneficial.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provides technical input to design deliverables across all stages of design (GRIP 1-8 / PACE ES 1-8)
  • Undertake quality assurance reviews of design calculations, reports, drawings and specifications
  • Input to design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others
  • Lead design delivery teams for both civil / structural and multidisciplinary schemes
  • Actively participates in multi disciplinary design development and interdisciplinary design reviews of design deliverables
  • Provide input to / manage programme and budgets for civil / structural work scope delivery
  • Support the development of junior engineers and technicians
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
  • Demonstrable equivalent experience within the UK rail industry

Preferred Qualifications
  • Incorporated / Chartered status with the ICE / I Struct E or evidence of working towards qualification with clear development plan in place
