Devon County Council is seeking a dynamic and innovative Team Manager for our Peripatetic Team within Adult Social Care.

This team comprises Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, and Social Care Assessors, all working in a flexible and rotational capacity to provide essential support across various teams in Adult Health and Social Care.

What is the Peripatetic Team?

Our Peripatetic Team offers county-wide support to address service needs such as increased workloads and staff vacancies. Team members typically rotate every three months, providing a diverse and enriching work experience. This structure includes two Team Managers, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Care Assessors, and newly qualified staff, all practicing in a peripatetic capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and supervise a team of social care professionals, ensuring effective caseload oversight and leadership. Provide county-wide support, stepping in to address increased workloads and vacancies across various teams. Conduct needs assessments for adults with a wide range of disabilities and health conditions, producing outcome-focused care plans. Perform Safeguarding Enquiries, undertake Mental Capacity Act Assessments, and make Best Interest decisions. Employ a strengths-based, person-centred approach in all aspects of work. Support service development by taking on roles such as placement supervisor, peer supervisor, and mentor for newly qualified staff.

About You:

We are looking for a confident, adaptable Social Worker who thrives on change and is willing to undertake rotations across different teams in Devon, including community, hospital, and specialist teams. You should be innovative, supportive, and committed to developing your skills and those of your team.

Qualifications and Experience:

Qualified Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Nurse with extensive experience in Adult Social Care. Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with a proven ability to manage a diverse team. Excellent assessment skills and experience in safeguarding, risk management, and producing care plans. Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and experience in making Best Interest decisions. A creative thinker with a strengths-based, person-centred approach to social care.
