Advanced Public Health Practitioners
The role of Advanced Public Health Practitioner (APHP) is an excellent opportunity for people aspiring to develop a career in public health. APHPs work collaboratively on specialist local public health programmes, providing support, expert advice and leadership. The roles will support the development, implementation, and delivery of public health improvement programmes to improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities.

To be successful you will need to be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline and passionate about health and wellbeing improvement. You'll be keen to develop and expand your skills, curious, flexible, an excellent communicator, collaborative, adaptable and able to work both independently and in teams.

The Advanced Public Health Practitioner team are an agile team whose areas of focus flex to support the wider needs of the core Public Health team which deliver a busy work programme across the domains of health improvement, health care public health and health protection.

This role will initially join our Complex Lives team, which has a large and varied work programme, including delivery against the national via the Devon Drug and Alcohol Strategic Partnership.

The primary focus of this role will be to ensure we review and learn from suicide and drug- and alcohol- related deaths and embed learning across the system. The role will also act as the Local Drug Information System Coordinator enabling all to share and respond effectively to risks arising from, for example, emerging risks due to contamination or novel substances. More broadly the role will support implementation of the Drug and Alcohol Strategy and work across other related areas such as inclusion health and public mental health as well as the wider public health programme as business need requires; for example supporting the sexual health team as they undertake the recommissioning of sexual health services in Devon.

About you
We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals, preferably with a background in drug and alcohol work, supporting or promoting the health of inclusion health groups, sexual health or suicide prevention.

The following skills and attributes would be essential in these roles:

Partnership working, networking, relationship building skills Strong interpersonal, diplomacy and communication skills Experience of working in a complex system Demonstrable track record of achieving positive outcomes and being able to evaluate and measure success Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects A commitment to learning, and sharing learning and insight with others
