Your role and responsibilities  

The Alternative Tuition Service at Suffolk County Council are seeking to employ a suitably qualified individual to support the service by supporting pupils with their education through our bespoke packages.

Support pupils working independently at home via online learning platforms to engage fully with the learning materials that are on offer to them by: 

using measures such as attendance to identify those young people needing further encouragement and support using all means of technology available (video calling, emailing, phone calls etc) to build the necessary relationships to promote engagement and pupils’ educational progression supporting teachers with elements of teaching and resources managing the process for contact with parents/carers of students requesting, recording and filing any medical evidence to support authorised absence liaising with other professionals and families to improve engagement and progression attending or leading various meetings including family, network, Education Welfare Officers, pupil progression pathway generating reports to keep teachers and managers informed and facilitate targeting those Young People and families needing support supporting exams officers with exam arrangements/duties.

You will need  

Relevant experience of working directly with children, young people and their families. Empathy and resilience to deal with managing parents and families under pressure. Experience of solution focused approaches in practice. Ability to recognise Child Protection and risk issues and alert concerns to manager.  Proven use of effective communication to liaise with a range of stakeholders.  Knowledge and experience of using a range of IT packages. Effective and proven experience of working in a team. Proven ability to make constructive contribution to meetings and negotiate with a range of stakeholders, settings, and contexts. Alternative Tuition Service is Suffolk County Council’s statutory education service and provides an education for all children and young people who are permanently excluded from school.
