The Department

The Operations Directorate: Elevating the Student and Staff Experience

The Operations Directorate is integral to the Colleges and Student Experience Division, dedicated to providing a world-class experience for our diverse student and staff communities, which is essential to our students' learning journey. Our passionate team delivers services and facilities across 15 colleges, including catering, housekeeping, reception, security, and maintenance. 1. University Catering: Our robust catering team of 500 ensures fresh, exciting, and diverse dining experiences throughout our colleges, catering to the unique needs of our University Community, which includes students, staff, and visitors, and offer expert advice on bar management.

2. College Operations: With over 200 dedicated professionals, we provide residential services within the colleges as well as supporting student and non-student-led events.

The Role

Durham University's Retail and Hospitality team seeks to appoint an experienced Assistant Retail Operations Manager to support the Retail Operations Manager and be responsible for the day-to-day performance at our Maiden Castle Café & Club Room and our Café at the Botanic Gardens.

With excellent team management skills and a passion for delivering food and beverage service excellence, the post-holder will have commercial experience, preferably within a branded high-street chain, hotel or university.

Experience planning, managing and delivering events is crucial and a key part of this role along with knowledge of managing the sale of alcohol in a bar setting and off the premises.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate good business acumen with a proven record of accomplishment in driving turnover and exceeding customer expectations.
