What you'll be doing

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, ideas-driven Senior Commissioning Editor/ Editorial Director (12-month contract). The successful candidate will be working specifically on the Wren & Rook list, focusing on commissioning and managing non-fiction titles for middle grade, teen and crossover audiences.

The candidate will be responsible for working with existing authors and illustrators, while proactively growing the list by seeking out and commissioning new creative talent. This role includes line management responsibilities.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a talented, ideas-driven and motivated individual with significant experience working in children's or adult non-fiction.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent editorial skills, solid commercial awareness and a record of commissioning commercial and bestselling non-fiction. You should have a solid understanding of the importance of author care, and a strong network with agents, authors and external partners.

We are looking for a versatile commissioner who can spot trends and up-and-coming brands, nurture our current authors, manage big pitches and proactively seek out new projects and ideas, commissioning forward-thinking lead titles for our award-winning list.

This role is the perfect position for a commissioning editor or senior commissioning editor with extensive commissioning, editorial and project management experience, who is looking for an opportunity to manage big projects and expand our list into new areas.

This is a varied and collaborative role, and the successful candidate will be involved in every aspect of the editorial process - from commissioning and delivering high-quality books in line with strategy and to budget, to championing their titles internally and working closely with staff across the business.

As a minimum, experience of working as a Commissioning Editor in children's or adult non-fiction is required, working knowledge of Biblio and InDesign is desirable, and a detailed understanding of the trade non-fiction market is essential.

This role can be based at our London office, or at any of our new regional offices in Sheffield, or Edinburgh, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
