Community Meals Driver

Community Meals Driver 16 hours per week – Permanent Position

As part of Community Services, this post supports the Community Meals Service in the delivery of hot meals to eligible residents of Guildford Borough. Working to a schedule in a purpose adapted vehicle, you will be responsible for the delivery of hot lunchtime meals and conducting a welfare check at each visit.

This service assists customers to remain independent in their homes for longer and promote health and wellbeing.

You will be required to work 16 hours over 4 days per week, 10:00am - 2:00pm, These are fixed working days of Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

A full, valid UK driving licence and a good level of personal fitness are required as this is a physical role.

Candidates should display good communication skills, a flexible style of working, good driving skills and an awareness of the physical problems and other difficulties that our service users may have. Experience or knowledge of working with vulnerable people would be beneficial in this role.

Job Profile

Overview Purpose:

The post holder will receive a daily programme and will be responsible delivering hot meals to older and disabled residents in Guildford. in accordance with a schedule.

 Prepare vehicles for the day’s activities by:

  • completing vehicle safety checks
  • loading ovens with the required number and type of meal according to a daily schedule and health and hygiene guidelines

 To assist the effective operations of the service by:

  • driving vehicles in a safe manner and being aware of the Highway Code
  • delivering meals to customers in their own homes
  • cleaning the vehicles regularly to maintain a high standard of internal and external cleanliness.
  • complying with stock control systems
  • receiving deliveries of frozen meals and checking against delivery notes

Candidates should have an awareness of the physical problems and other difficulties customers may encounter as part of the ageing process.
