Children's Family Practitioner

Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

About Us

We're on an exciting and ambitious journey of cultural change. We're continuing to embed and relational ways of working. We believe that for most families, the family home is the best place for children to live and thrive.

About the role

We are looking for a Family Practitioner to provide targeted family support to families with multiple and complex needs and subject to a range of other statutory interventions in North Devon , to reduce the need for children to become looked after.

The role is a 12 month maternity cover.

Supporting families with appropriate skilled interventions and practical support, both in response to crisis and for some families, as part of a long-term support package.

To deliver earlier and quicker services to families working as part of a small cluster and working in partnership with other professionals in a small geographical area.

About You

You will need to build relationships with families and provide practical hands-on help, support, and challenge to support the family to change.

You will need to be persistent, tenacious, and assertive, working with families who have been resistant to interventions from a statutory agency.

This will be a combination of hybrid/office - 2/3 days expected to be in the office a week.

Devon is a mostly rural county, and as our localities cover a large area and accordingly our candidates can be expected to travel some distance between visits. In some areas, candidates will not be able to rely on walking, cycling or public transport to make visits. We therefore require candidates to have access to their own suitable transport, subject to reasonable adjustments that may need to be made in line with the Equality Act 2010.

What's in it for you?

Working for Devon County Council has all the benefits that you can expect from a large employer.

In return for the vital contribution that you make, we can offer you an excellent competitive salary and benefits package, including:

26 days paid annual leave per year, rising to 31 days with 5 years’ continuous service, plus bank holidays.  Ongoing learning and development opportunities through our Social Work Academy with dedicated support from our Restorative Practice Leads, as well as Research in Practice membership and full access to Devon Children and Families Safeguarding training programme.  Dedicated support with regular supervision from line management so you can critically reflect on your practice on a regular basis. Group supervisions are also offered, allowing you to learn from your colleagues and grow the strength of your social work practice together.  Access to our confidential Devon Wellbeing Hub and Employee Assistance Programme to support you to balance the demands of everyday life – available 24/7.  Flexible working opportunities, including flexitime and a degree of remote working (subject to the needs of the role - please discuss at interview).  Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).  Links to staff networks and forums such as our LGBTQ+, BAME and Staff Diversity support networks.  Discounts at over 900 national and local high street retailers through our benefits platform Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice scheme Cycle to Work scheme Free onsite parking available Ability to purchase additional annual leave
