CPS HQ Communications is delighted to advertise the role of Press Officer.

As this role sits within a busy Press Office team, the following experience is deemed as essential to the role:�

Previous experience of working in a challenging, fast-moving media or PR environment

Candidates should ensure that they meet this criteria prior to applying.

Job description

Our press officers sit at the heart of our media operation. The primary function of the role is to explain and promote the work of the CPS to the public through the media, and to provide advice to CPS staff on media and presentational issues. You will work on high-profile and challenging issues and cases, including rape and serious sexual offences and domestic abuse, terrorism, and violent crime, which dominate headlines and public interest.

You will develop creative, strategies to raise awareness of our ambitious work to build public confidence in the CPS. You will bring new ideas to the table to tap into new audiences and deliver engaging, accurate and timely content.

Person specification

Look for ways to promote the work of the CPS, researching positive stories and successfully place them in the media.Build productive working relationships with key journalists � including national news organisations, broadcasters and specialist titles � to foster better understanding of the work of the CPS.Giving expert communications advice on sensitive and complex issues through written and verbal briefings.Deliver impactful multi-channel communications plans and producing audience-focused content for social media.Actively build and maintain a network of colleagues and contacts across the criminal justice system (CJS) to ensure a more joined-up approach to communications work.Evaluate the effectiveness of communications against business and communications objectives; review lessons learned to identify areas for improvement and inform future work.Ensure the HQ Press Office stays abreast of the extensive case work, identifying opportunities for positive news stories and anticipating any risks.Supporting our 24/7 press operation by being part of the out-of-hours duty rota, which includes working evenings and weekend shifts [for which overtime can be claimed]
