The Army Commercial Team is responsible for working closely with the British Army within their fast-paced Military Head Quarters to deliver innovative solutions to Defence requirements. We play a vital role in supporting Defence by contracting a diverse portfolio of requirements ranging in value and complexity from long term commitments in specialist capability areas to low value short term support contracts and sales contracts generating income and supporting wider Defence engagement priorities.
At Army Commercial you will work within a highly capable team who will support you to develop your skills, knowledge and experience; we employ dedicated people who challenge and operate outstanding practices. �This Procurement role sits within a dedicated team who are forward deployed in Northern Ireland, delivering a professional procurement service to the Army.

Much of what we purchase isn�t �off-the-shelf�, so a crucial part of the job is negotiating the details of the contracts we place, agreeing the terms of delivery. This outstanding mix of Procurement and Contract Management makes up the Commercial Function, and across the Function we work with customers, partners, and professionals.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. You will be required to work on a hybrid basis, meaning up to 3 days per week in office (60% of your time in office).
Job description
The Northern Ireland Procurement� Officer will be responsible for the procurement of their nominated requirements as allocated by the Commercial Business Partner ensuring the requirements are pro-actively managed from definition to contract award. This includes defining the requirement and route to market, ensuring all approvals are in place, advertising, evaluating, and awarding the contract in collaboration with the Army customer and building and maintaining good working relationships with the customer team, the supplier, and other key stakeholders.
The post holder will build and maintain their effectiveness by ensuring that they keep up to date with procurement, broader commercial and HR policy developments that affect them or their section. They will ensure they keep up to date with the tools and systems used to support procurement's and payments including Defence Sourcing Portal (DSP) and Contract, Purchasing and Finance (CP&F) and they must be familiar with these.
The Northern Ireland Team, while forward deployed, is part of the Army Commercial team, and the post holder is expected to contribute to wider activities that contribute to the overall team�s objectives when requested. This small specialist team is made up of experienced commercial officers and as the role is forward deployed the team must be able to function unsupervised. The successful candidate must be an experienced and knowledgeable commercial officer who already holds a commercial delegation.
Person specification
The overarching role of the post is to provide active leadership of a section responsible for providing the procurement of a range of Army contracts, some of which are high-value and strategically important. The role has line management responsibility for 1 x Executive Officer. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the section�s outputs meet Commercial policy standards, whilst ensuring effective management of resources, and the provision of continuous development of the section.
As a Commercial Practitioner:
You will be expected to provide commercial advice and guidance to customers and other project team members, including direction on the responsibilities of a procurement officer and how to engage appropriately with suppliers.
You will be expected to deliver the contract requirement whilst understanding of the needs, expectations and priorities of our customers and suppliers in line with Policy and the appropriate Regulations. This involves both Sourcing and Contract Management skills in our support to the Armed Forces across the Army
You will be keen to seek out new opportunities for learning, self-development, career development and are prepared to commit to up to two years on a fast paced and intensive development programme.
