The job itself

Enthusiastic and caring individual required to support trips out in the community for a 11-year-old male with a complex congenital heart disease called Pulmonary Atresia with Intact Ventricular Septum and autism.

The young person is looking for a positive role model, with a lot of energy and patience who can work on their own initiative when out and about. The ideal candidate will have some experience of working with children with special educational needs and disability, be conscientious, reliable, and always maintain safety.

The young person has an interest in hoovers, watching YouTube videos, playing games such as Minecraft etc, going shopping, swimming, and baking. The young person is keen to try new activities and take part in new experiences.

The young person is described as cheerful, kind to others and friendly. He likes doing things with friends, likes to try new things, is creative and enjoys practical activities. The young person can share his thoughts, feelings, and experiences through talking but may need support with managing these appropriately.

He needs close supervision when in the community to monitor his health needs and has limited awareness of danger or road safety. Occasionally he can present with some behaviour when leaving favoured activities or prevented from doing something of his choosing. This can be displayed as verbal exchanges; however, these can be easily managed.

The role is based on a package of 8 hours per week term time with an additional 4 hours per week in the school holidays. These hours are negotiable and flexible to suit the needs of both the family and the worker.

As we are based in Bridlington, it would be beneficial for the candidate to have a valid full UK driving licence and access to a car to be able to access a variety of social and leisure activities.
