Trainee Educational Psychologists

Beverley, United Kingdom East Riding of Yorkshire Council Full time
Description

The job itself

We are looking for two Trainee Educational Psychologists (TEPs) to be part of our educational psychology service. To apply for one of these posts, you must have completed, or be on track to successfully complete Year 2 of the doctoral training programme by the end of August 2024. Please note this role is for only TEPs who are currently studying on a recognised Educational and Child Psychology Doctoral Training Programme. It is anticipated that you will complete your Doctoral qualification during this year of employment in order to become registered with the HCPC following completion of the course.

We are delighted to be offering this exciting opportunity to join our innovative, supportive and highly valued team of Educational Psychologists working in the beautiful county of East Riding of Yorkshire. The Educational Psychology (EP) Service is highly regarded by schools/settings and families. As an EP in East Riding, you will be working within a service model that supports a graduated approach, with a focus on building capacity at SEN support and providing high quality statutory EHC needs assessments across the 0-25 age range.

The Educational Psychology Service sits within Children and Young People’s Specialist Services, which has responsibility for Special Educational Needs assessment and placement, Children’s Commissioning and sufficiency, school specialist teaching and support and the Virtual School.

The Educational Psychology Service includes Area Senior Educational Psychologists, Specialist Senior EPs, Educational Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, and Inclusion Practitioners (Autism and Language and Communication Needs). We also have a strong and successful commitment to providing placements for Trainee Educational Psychologists. We are proud of our service, fulfilling both statutory duties and providing a consultation model of service delivery, along with a progressive and responsive training and development offer.

Collectively we work in partnership with education settings, families, and partner agencies to ensure the best possible educational, social and emotional outcomes for children and young people.

The Service has an influential role in the development and implementation of Council policy and strategy; is involved in developing East Riding’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Academy and is also supporting national NHS developments and initiatives, such as the delivery of Mental Health Support Teams.

We provide a programme of Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) training and supervision and deliver the Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training to schools and a range of practitioners working within the local authority.

Additional service priorities include: tackling anxiety and supporting, supporting pathways for children young people with anxiety relating to school attendance (EBSA). We lead on the development and delivery of many creative psychological approaches including mindful approaches, emotion coaching and cognitive behavioural approaches.

All members of the team are encouraged to contribute to strategic developments and to develop an area of professional interest through our development working groups. We are actively involved in organising and delivering a number of highly rated network events, including our annual conference for SENCos and conference for designated teachers for children and young people who are, and have been, looked after.

We have a strong reputation for providing high quality placements for Trainee EPs and many of our previous Trainees have chosen to stay with us in the Service. As a TEP within the East Riding you will have responsibility for providing a supervised and supported psychological service to a small cluster of schools within a geographical area.

When joining our team, you can expect:

Regular supervision with a senior EP, additional maingrade EP mentor and peer and group supervision. Opportunities to develop a range of skills and experiences to demonstrate you meet the relevant competencies leading to successful completion of the doctoral course. University commitments will be honoured to ensure the appropriate balance of academic and practical experiences. Including a reduced allocation of statutory assessments in line with the University Placement Practice Guidelines. Opportunities to work systemically and to be involved in regional partnerships. Dedicated and efficient administrative support. A friendly, professional, and supportive team. Flexible agile working arrangements.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

You must be able to drive and have access to your own vehicle for which a casual user car allowance will be paid from County Hall (Beverley) where appropriate.

In addition to these advertised posts, we would welcome a discussion with experienced and HCPC registered Educational Psychologists interested in joining the Service as Associate Educational Psychologists, providing psychological advice as part of Education Health and Care Needs Assessments.
