We empower people with the literacy skills they need to succeed in life. Together we're helping people change their stories. You could join us in this key role, managing our relationships with publishers and authors to support work across the charity.

Our Connecting Stories project aims to boost literacy levels among children and young people in communities of greatest need, through a series of inspiring author events, access to free books, and an array of activities led by local volunteers, from book clubs to story trails. Funded by Arts Council England and supported by 43 publishers to date, the project has reached over a million children and young people since its launch in December 2020.

As Publisher Relations Manager, you will develop and manage relationships with leading partners in the literature sector to support this work. Based in our development team, you will work alongside our communities and communications teams to recruit publishers, authors and illustrators to deliver exciting local events in target areas. You will also negotiate and oversee book donations, support content, permissions and copyright processes, and help wider author engagement across the organisation.

You will need strong experience of managing relationships with key stakeholders at all levels, and of programming in-person and online events. Excellent working knowledge of the publishing industry and contemporary writing for children and young people is also essential. You will be a clear and confident communicator, who enjoys working autonomously and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

Manage relationships with publisher partners to recruit authors/illustrators to support Connecting Stories and the wider work of the charityCo-produce a programme of inclusive and diverse events author/illustrator events for schools and communities, working closely with colleagues in the communities teamManage event logistics to ensure the best possible offer for the audienceEnsure authors/illustrators and their publishers are fully briefed and supported in their involvement with Connecting Stories and the wider work of the charityLiaise with publishers to manage content, permissions and copyright processesRepresent the National Literacy Trust at book launches and other publisher eventsWork with colleagues across the organisation to create processes and reports to capture publisher-related activity Knowledge, skills and experience
