Peterborough, Peterborough, United Kingdom Sweco Full time

About the @one Alliance

Here within the @one Alliance we are a totally collaborative organisation made up of our eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO) and our extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water's capital investment programme.

We are gearing up for our most exciting and challenging Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, this will see us deliver a programme of work larger than we've ever delivered before. We'll be embarking on a new kind of project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

We are driving change, empowering us to set global benchmarks and build a better environment, with the opportunity to offer enhanced growth and development to our workforce. We're looking to build on our existing teams with an environment built for career progression.

To ensure we support our objectives of collaboration across the business whilst providing our workforce with the agility to achieve a healthy work/ life balance, we are asking our employees to have office or site presence on an average of three days a week.

As our new Lead Civil Engineer, you'll provide design support for numerous non-infrastructure schemes and ensure all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards. You'll be responsible for the checking and reviewing of civil design deliverables produced by other civil engineers in the @one Alliance to ensure the processes and procedures are followed as well as coaching and mentoring junior engineers irrespective of partner company.

Collaborating with key stakeholders and assist the multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure the project solution is providing best value for business through being fit for purpose and completed on time, to budget, and to the correct quality. You'll also collaborate with other stakeholders throughout the business to drive continuous developments in engineering, design, and innovation. In addition, you'll be responsible for delivering your own projects as a civil engineer.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with Principal Engineer, Design Managers and Technical managers to acquire upcoming project milestones and design review dates. Regularly report to the Principal Engineer.
  • Reviewing drawings and models to ensure @one quality, safety, and technical standards are adhered to.
  • Reviewing project design calculations and ensure they have been completed by project teams.
  • Reviewing construction site design queries and change requests to ensure quick but accurate responses and/or the design remains suitable.
  • Liaising with other departments and project teams with respect to design requirements and ensure own project workload is completed to the correct standards and specifications.
  • Working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. Whilst working across the Alliance project areas and Pan-Alliance to set technical common standards and processes.
  • Ensuring designs comply with all statutory civil standards and regulations and water industry standards and regulations.
  • Working with the Anglian Water and @one Alliance Innovations team to develop and trial new technologies intended to support the client in meeting carbon reduction targets.

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours....

To join us on the team, you'll hold a degree in Civil or be able to demonstrate a degree level of knowledge through relevant experience. Ideally, you'd be a chartered engineer by relevant chartership body (e.g., ICE) but this is not essential, more importantly you can demonstrate a level of competence in practical civil engineering design experience in the water / wastewater industry environment.

You'll have a proven track record in design and integration of civil process systems, and equipment, and have some experience in the Mentoring and coaching of junior engineers. You'll have the ability to work with people from different partner company backgrounds and disciplines and utilise their knowledge and experience - implement tried and tested ways of working. Whilst adding to this with own experience and know how.
