The role:
Gower College is seeking to appoint a Schools support worker to contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the exciting 14-16 Schools programme.
Part-time hours per week)
Term-time (36 weeks per annum)
1 year fixed term
Based on 20 hours per week, pro rata salary would be £10,107 per annum (£23,403 FTE)
Tycoch campus
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide one-to-one or small group support under lecturer direction as appropriate in the classroom setting.
- To assist in the manual handling of students with personal care requirements in accordance with the individual care plan.
- To assist with the development of learners' literacy and numeracy skills.
- To assist with the pastoral care needs of learners and to direct learners to other college support mechanisms as necessary.
- To provide learners with help in understanding oral and written instruction.
- To assist with the co-ordination of learners' work, record keeping and progress through liaison with lecturing and support staff at all levels within the College.
- To attend and participate in learner reviews and team meetings as required.
- To maintain the confidentiality of information given on/from individual learners in line with College policy and procedures.
- To support learners with the use of assistive technology and specialist software and actively promote its use.
- To support learners outside the classroom as required e.g. on College trips, in public spaces, during lunch breaks and on journeys as necessary.
- To actively support learners online when the College, department or class are operating and delivering remotely.
- To act as a reader, prompter, amanuensis or any other reasonable adjustment for examination and assessment purposes.
- To undertake other duties, commensurate with the post, across the College as required by the Principal.
About you:
- Maths and English GCSEs: A - C Grade or equivalent
- Experience of working with young people in a similar job role
- Good understanding of safeguarding and supporting learners with additional needs
- Confident, resilient, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
