The Weapons area primarily supports the design, development, production, and integration activities associated with the Paveway IV Weapon Systems.

As a result of new contracts, the engineering team is looking for a motivated Mechanical Systems Engineer with a background in mechanical design, simulation, and test.

The role will be based at Raytheon's Harlow facility and the successful applicant will report directly to the Project Engineering Lead. The successful candidate will have access to professional development opportunities and be part of the growing Defence Business in Raytheon UK, delivering engineering expertise across a wide range of projects to both military and civil customers worldwide.

Main Duties:

  • Produce mechanical designs to support product development, including 3D CAD models and drawings
  • Evaluate the structural behaviour of complex assemblies including stress, vibration, structural integrity, and thermal analysis.
  • Undertake assessments using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS)
  • Support the design development of complex systems through model validation activities
  • Deliver mechanical/environmental test plans to support product qualification
  • Effectively communicate designs through presentations, technical reports, and progress meetings with stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Technology
  • Demonstrable experience in mechanical design for complex structures, including electronics
  • Able to apply design for manufacture principles to a range of manufacturing methods
  • Working knowledge of statics, dynamics, and thermal evaluation of aerospace components to evaluate designs
  • Eligible or holder of current SC security clearance

Desirable:

  • Commercial experience in a mechanical design role
  • Experience in the design of electronic PCBs, including board layouts and connector positions
  • Experience in environmental testing and qualification activities for defence materiel
  • Weapon Systems domain knowledge and/or experience in a similar field
