Main duties

1. Promote and champion the rights, values, responsibilities and diversity of people, and act in an open and compassionate way within clear professional boundaries.

2. Promote and maintain effective communication with people in order to build and sustain positive working relationships with individuals, families and carers, team members and other agencies. This may include accessing translation and interpreting services.

3. Contribute to the planning, implementation and review of care packages, including implementing specific parts of an individual care plan.

4. Working autonomously within relevant practice boundaries, under indirect, but not 'direct', supervision of registered clinicians.

5. Conduct comprehensive assessments of mental health needs and clinical risks.

6. Maintain accurate, confidential records of patient activity, contributing to a range of written documents as appropriate, including reports, referrals and letters.

7. Enable people to understand and manage their mental health needs in line with their care plan and relapse prevention strategies. This may include enabling people to manage their own domestic and personal resources, housing needs, and enabling people to access learning / training, or work opportunities.

8. Support individuals in developing and maintaining their identity and personal relationships, including potentially difficult.

9. Support people with mental health needs to engage with their own health care, in accordance with their care plan.

10. Act to protect individuals from abuse and harm in line with local and National policies and procedures (e.g. Safeguarding, Risk Management, Suicide Prevention).

11. Work proactively with carers and families, identifying carers' needs and signposting to appropriate services or agencies.

12. Provide a range of structured therapeutic interventions and clinical monitoring in accordance with National guidelines and best-practice, including the use of routine outcome measures, within the wider community, working in group or on a one to one basis.

13. Act as a key worker to service users accepted into the service under the supervision of a Registered Professional.

14. Provide support and advice and liaise/engage with partnership agencies, multi-disciplinary teams and the wider community where appropriate.

15. Potentially in future act as as cofacilitator for the groups.

16. Contribute positively to the achievement of service targets and outcomes.

17. Use techniques derived from one or more therapeutic models to engage and optimise service user treatment outcomes and to support their longterm care plan.

18. When indicated refer or signpost on to a range of other specialist and third sector services

19. Work closely with, support and provide information to service user families/carers, and wider community services that support the service-user care-pathway.

20. Comply with and carry out safe practice in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, appropriate Codes of Conduct, the Mental Health Act and other relevant national and local guidance.

21. Participate in the provision of an extended hour's service.

22. Work flexibly across BNSSG to support service need.

23. Proactively develop your knowledge and practice, making use of both clinical and management supervision and available learning opportunities.

24. Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace.

Qualifications



Essential criteria
  • Ability to study at degree level/ proven academic success (including good literacy and numeracy)
  • Experience of working within Mental Health, Supportive or relevant role/ study
  • Able to travel to meet requirement of role


Skills and competencies

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to study as a self-motivated learner who can formulate their own progress towards learning objectives and negotiate pathways to achievement with supervisory teams
  • Ability to learn in a variety of settings and using a variety of learning methods


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of children and young people gained through academic study or experience in child development, child wellbeing or mental health
  • Knowledge of or desire to work in an ED setting


Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the educational system in England


Previous Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with CYP in educational/ MH/ youth work/ Support setting
  • Experience of working within mental health or support worker setting
  • Experience of supporting someone with an ED


Specific Attributes

  • Ability to personally manage a sensitive, traumatic and potentially emotionally distressing caseload
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
