Community Involvement Officer

City of York Council are seeking an excellent networker and people orientated person to help lead our Armed Forces Covenant programme and build on strong partnership working arrangements.

The post holder will have good community development and engagement skills and an empathetic nature.

You will liaise with the armed forces community and introduce innovative methods of engagement with all sectors of the community.


In York we have a very wide group of people that make up the armed forces community including veterans of all ages, serving members of the armed forces mainly the army, reservists, cadets and all the partners and members of their families.


The post holder will also engage with military charities, local community groups and charities that support our armed forces community.

Encourage local business and charities to sign the armed forces covenant and encourage business of all sizes to be aware that the military is good for their business.


You will importantly, help to raise the profile of the Armed Forces Covenant and ensure the effective flow of information to and from partners and local communities about the specific needs of the armed forces community and engage with civil society groups who are not currently involved in York's Community Covenant.

The post holder will develop and deliver the York Armed Forces Covenant Action. The five main elements of the action plan are outlined below.

1: A comprehensive York Armed Forces Community Information and Directly of Support booklet.

2: The weekly Armed Forces Drop In Centre which is a social and welfare hub

3: The series of weekly breakfast clubs, which are social events to connect and build social networks.

4: Convening the York Armed Forces Community Executive.

The Executive meets four times each year and is the accountable body for the delivery of the action plan and is chaired by the Leader of the City of York Council.

5: Arrange with others suitable events to support the armed forces community


Whilst it may be desirable for the post holder to be a member of the armed forces community it is certainly not essential.
