The Senior Global Accountant role operates within the Group Reporting team, responsible for Bupa's statutory and regulatory reporting process and providing technical accounting expertise to finance colleagues across the Group.

How you'll help us make health happen:

The role provides an opportunity to shape the future of Bupa's reporting processes and output in line with market best practice and is accountable for the following:
  • Preparation of the Group's consolidated statutory accounts for annual and interim reporting;
  • Coordination and production of the Group's Annual Report & Accounts;
  • Ensuring Financial Accounting throughout the Bupa Group complies with the latest accounting guidance and promote best practice;
  • Preparation and delivery of reporting instructions and communications to Market Units and Group teams;
  • Development of a 'customer service' culture across Group Finance to ensure that the function builds rapport with, works alongside to resolve issues and build an understanding of each Market Unit;
  • Maintenance and promotion of best practice in the use of Tagetik (Group consolidation system), working alongside group finance systems to ensure controlled user-acceptance testing for new reporting requirements and developments, including the provision of training to MUs; and
  • Support the Reporting Manager in creating an environment of continuous improvement to ensure that all reporting is conducted to the highest possible standard whilst meeting efficiency requirements
In addition to the above, this individual will be accountable for the following:
  • Reviewing the integrity of data submitted by businesses as part of statutory and management reporting processes;
  • Responsible for certain areas of the group consolidation (e.g. Reserves, Intangibles and Goodwill including impairment testing) and preparation of various disclosure notes forming part of the Group's annual and interim financial statements, including drafting commentary around material movements in the period;
  • Supporting the embedding of new accounting standards such as IFRS 17;
  • Liaising with the Group auditors to ensure they receive appropriate information to perform their audit;
  • Responsible for the continuing development of reporting processes within their remit and ensuring that processes, risks and controls are fully documented;
  • Support in coaching and development of other team members including graduate/placement student;
  • Review of other external documents during the year end and half year processes including materials for credit rating agencies and bond holders; and
  • Providing support and financial accounting advice to Business Units and Group functions by interpreting and applying financial reporting standards.
  • Supporting the Group Reporting Team in the production of regulatory reporting. (e.g: ORSA, SFCR, QRTs).
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

We are looking for an ambitious individual with a desire to develop themselves in financial reporting.
  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA).
  • Group reporting/consolidation experience in a large group.
  • Clear understanding of financial controls and importance of data integrity.
  • Experience of working within financial reporting processes with multiple stakeholders (e.g. other finance functions, senior management, external advisors and project teams).
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other teams across the Group, Market and Business units and Senior Management.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • An organised and flexible approach to work.
  • Strong Excel and data manipulation skills; experience of working with financial consolidation systems an advantage.
