Unilever's Port Sunlight is the home of development for the next generation of a range of Home Care products including Dish-wash, Laundry products and Fabric conditioners. The Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) team is the key interface between the technical teams and the consumer – leading the consumer learning plans that enable R&D teams to design better products, which deliver to our Clean Future Strategy.
The role of the CTI team is to bring insights that enable Unilever to develop innovations in the marketplace. We carry out strategic studies that bring new consumer knowledge, design testing that allows us to understand what are the key consumer benefits and develop claims for a range of new and disruptive technologies. This role fits within the Home Care CTI management team, specifically working within the Laundry programme. The role involves working on global brands, across a number of global projects within multidisciplinary teams to generate relevant consumer insights that will guide product innovation.
Job Purpose:
You will identify the key consumer questions on relevant programme areas, develop the plan and lead the team to answer them. You will build new capabilities, tools and ecosystems as needed to generate novel insights. You will work on the development of these insights into guiding principles for the formulation and brand teams, to enable them to develop the right products/technologies and claims, and make the right decisions for product launch. You will also develop strategic consumer insight programmes that are less linked to brands, but that increase our knowledge of the different types of consumers or future opportunities for our products.
Although the role will focus on the Laundry programme, this role is in the 1-Homecare CTI team and there may be programme elements which deliver across the division. Further to this you will work on strategic activities to "raise the game" in insight generation, such as new tools and partners. The role will have a heavy involvement in working with digital tools and data from a range of sources. We are particularly interested in candidates that have interest or experience in digital consumer research methodologies.
You will be an active member of the HC CTI global management team, and have line management responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a core member of multiple Global Project Teams, partnering with Consumer Market Insights (CMI) to develop and design a comprehensive insight plan that supports innovation.
- Work with external partners to execute qualitative and quantitative studies according to brief. Build capability both internally and through external ecosystem.
- Analyse and report consumer data to a high standard OTIF and evaluate alongside technical data, drawing out relevant insights to build recommendations and next steps to shape products, packs & stories.
- Ability to mine, analyse and deep dive historical, technical and consumer data to identify big insights that will drive new product and pack opportunities for the Homecare Di
- vision.Be able to present data according to the audience: technical and brand teams and potentially senior stakeholders as appropriate.
- Understand and apply standard methods and when necessary design, adapt and/or input into novel methodologies as appropriate to suit study objectives and build capability.
- Act as advocate of the consumers on projects to translate consumer needs and claims into technical targets to be delivered by the cross-functional project team, supported by CTI testing where appropriate.
- Lead elements of the Category CTI Strategic Understanding Plan
- Work effectively across cultures and countries, as an active member of the HC CTI global management team
- line manage reports (who may or may-not be co-located); manage programme priorities for workplanning, Individual Development Plans and actively promote and role-model desired ways of working
All About You:
- Broad understanding of consumers and the testing methodologies used to assess product performance
- Ability to translate consumer data into key insights that can be used for product innovation
- Proficiency in the use of data mining, global trends etc. to drive more ambitious insights.
- Ability to translate consumer insights into communications for diverse audiences (e.g. formulation and marketing)
- Analytical capability, and comfortable with digital approaches to research.
- Some knowledge of statistics
- Interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
- Ability to work across teams and cultures in a collaborative way
- Passion for learning and passion for championing well-being in the workplace.
- Physical Science or Social Science degree – some understanding of products is preferable
- Experience in Consumer Insight and consumer insight tools (generation of insights, execution of studies and translation of insights into actionable guidelines for innovation)
- Experience of working within multi-disciplinary environment
- Experience in data mining analysis and extracting insights from data
- Quantitative Consumer Research experience is desirable
- Knowledge of home care products/category would be an advantage
